why all the complaining about AYC, ACD?
#16
Many good points have been made in this thread and others about bettering one's driving skills and the actual impact of the ACD/AYC on the Evo's performance. The number one "mod" to improve your car's performance would be a driving school; however, you will eventually reach the limit of your car's potential.
Technology like the ACD/AYC exist to do things that no driver can do. I would prefer to have both features, or at least the ACD, because I believe the active drivetrain is what makes the car an Evolution (in terms of what the Evo 7 GSR was, not previous generations). If doesn't give us these features, then what people will buy from the dealer is basically an over-priced 4-door DSM. What will the Evo offer us besides stock Brembos, Recaros, a warranty and an Evo badge? My only demand as a consumer and car enthusiast is that give us a car that continues the evolution while not charging us more than it is worth.

It's still got more HP than a stock DSM, more space, a more rigid chassis and well...it's not like the difference in price is so great that it wouldn't be justified in my eyes.
EDIT: And as with any product it's worth as much or as little as people are willing to pay for it. If enough people will pay $35,000 for the car...well...it's pretty much worth $35,000.

Wait , Wait Wait...hold up......My name is Marcus.. Im from Trinidad...My family owns a car import company,,,ive driven evo 4, 5, 6, tme and 7...............i agree that ive said **** and sounded to have been whining over acd and ayc and maybe ,,,,,as one person has said, threatened to boycott mitsubishi. But let me tell you smthn,,, i drive skyline, supra, s2000,, but only the evo is the one i beat the most,,, why u ask????? cause it was made to..now i dont know what u guys planning to do with ure evo,,,but my bro and me take the evo out to cane fields and criket pitches,,,just about any rally simulated situation we can...because the car made for that.......Im 19 and true i cant drive like tommi makinen or make perfectly executed turn but thats why i depend on active intelligent control systems such as ayc.....And i dont care what anyone says, you do feel the difference even at turning below 100km. And when we got acd, it was amazing cause tourque splitting diffrentials are alot of fun and are helpful if ure driving hard and doin turns in the sand and the beach.... But i guess its all how u plan to drive ure evo....Me.......i think it was made to drive hard,,,,,and thats why ill be pissed when the whole world gets acd, ayc, and the us gets none!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why does it HAVE to be based on personal driving experience to be counted as stepping back? This car is not an 'evolution' of other cars we may or may not have driven, it's an evolution of itself. Have YOU driven it before? No? Well then it should be fine if it is delivered to us with 195bhp as well, seeing as we have no previous basis for comparison To me, it seems like there's alot of hypocrasy floating around; MOST people on this forum have never driven an Evo before, but it's the things we have learned or heard of just flat out dreamed about the car that got us to this level of fanaticism. But it would seem, to some, that really we shouldn't feel one way or the other about the car since we've never actually driven it. Well then what are we all doing here? We'd all better just leave and let the people who actually own Evo's tend to the forum.

Just one question, Is this so called "step back" in performance based on personal driving experience? If so what EVO did you drive before? Just curious

Look, guys: it doesnt matter if the Evo comes with or without AYC; in fact, for those who know how to drive well, drift, tailbrake, a non AYC Evo will be more fun. And it doesnt matter if it has 260 or 280 bhp to start with, we'll all end up with anything between 350 and 500 or more anyway
What matters is the stiff body shell, the awesome AWD system, good brakes and the engine's way of reving. And you will get all that. For sure. It will be awesome!
Just make sure you'll get one!

I said it is a step back because name one Evolution before this that featured the ACD? Hmm? None you say? Well, then, seeing as it was fit to be added to a new Evolutionary state, wouldn't you say that it is what makes it PERFORMANCE wise different from say, a 6.5?
Look, I even said "step back" in quotations to emphasis that no, it wouldn't be a major backpedal, or even something that makes it less of a great machine. I simply said that it does not hold with the name Evolution, if it was something that was useful to the car's overal performance success, and it will be absent for whatever reason as so much as an option. Should it be standard? No. Should it be an option in order to keep with tradition, even if said tradition doesn't exist in the US? A very big yes, in my opinon.

I didnt' say they would break them, but, that it is kind of against the tradition (it would appear) to remove a part that has led to the vehicle's performance success. So many articles and comparisons have said that without a doubt, the ACD (coupled with the AYC, though, as you'll read, I said the ACD was what was absent in previous Evos) made the difference in drivablity and performance.
And for the Record I did see that you have an EVO IV, and feel that perhaps your response to my comments about the presence of an intelligent drivetrain component like the ACD really seperated the EVO VII from the herd may have to do with the fact that you don't own one. I never said that the presence of such a system made the other Evos lesser cars, just that the ACD marked a pretty damn big step forward in automotive technology, and the Evolution was better for having it as an option.

And if you carefully read ALL the critique about the systems..you'll know that while systems are good, it will not make or break the performance tradition of the EVO performance heritage. Maybe you should pay more attention to one's profile before commmenting what they may or may not have done. PEACE

I guess your just gonna have drive one then...no sense making this big deal. each owner will get a chance to see or rather "feel" for themselves first hand, whether the systems live up to the press or not....just side note though...more RS are sold in Japan than GSR for what it's worth PEACE
