when it comes to Evolution racing sucess, you can see that these drivetrain systems haven't been used. Although I must say that recently driving a car equipped with stability control
(which works in the same fashion as yaw control) it impressed me in how the car regained its line when slipping a bit in the rain. It is however intrusive for a race car driver. It can cause unwanted changes in weight transfers that will eventually slow you down (on a racetrack). In the street its a beneficial feature, and a nice one. I would love to have it. Just stop the complaining and lets move on. There are many cars on the market with no control of drivetrain that would blow by an Evo. Remember, its more of a drivers game than anything else. GO TO A DRIVING SCHOOL before investing in power upgrades.
I truly feel that the ones that complainare the same ones that will be drag racing down the streets and running down the quarter mile. These cars are not made for that purpose. They are made for a serious roadcourse or rally course. Thats the bottom line.

Some people seem to be confusing the issues, and certain points being made are flawed.

These are my opinions, and while you may disagree, I am entitled to express them. I encourage you to debate the points-- that's why a forum exists-- but don't keep saying the same things over and over. If you feel like you need to change the way someone else thinks, try to use logical reasoning or present concrete evidence, if available.

None of us drive as well as Tommi Mäkinen. You're not a race car driver, although you may pretend to be.

WRC racers don't use AYC, but that doesn't mean AYC wouldn't help your driving.

The RS outperforms the GSR, but it's because of other factors than only the lack of AYC. Reduced weight makes sense.

AYC helps the performance of the Evo 7 GSR, especially because of the larger chassis.

AYC and ACD seem to be the reasons why reviewers pick the Evo 7 over the Subaru WRX STi.

A lot of potential Evo buyers would prefer to buy a U.S. Evo that matches the Evo 7 GSR specs.

Drag racing does not utilize AYC. The ones that are "complaining" (like me, I guess) want AYC for turns. We're not that stupid.

If Mitsubishi doesn't put the ACD/AYC on the U.S. Evo, the price of the car should drop.

Mitsubishi should offer the ACD/AYC as options for those of us that want them.

How much did 95-99 GSX's cost new?

If I remember correctly it was only a few thousand less and the Evo brings all the plusses of the GSX's and then some. I don't see them lowering, or having a reason to lower the price whether AYC or ACD is on the car or not. For every person who says they won't buy the car without them, there's at least one who will still buy it.

At Edmunds I found a MSRP of $25,755 (including destination charge) for a 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX.

So, the Evo has more power, less weight, 4 doors, and more space. I still want the price lowered than what is rumored, because people in other countries will probably get the active drivetrain for the same price. I'm not saying I won't buy the car. I just want to make sure it will kick the STi's butt in performance and price.

Think of it from Mitsubishi's point of view: If AYC and ACD may be problematic to cover under warranty for three years then they won't do it. If it raises production costs above their projected range of the USDOT doesn't want them to have it then they won't have it. If one enthusiast doesn't buy it and there's enough interest for them to believe that it will they will reach projected sales, they probably won't sell it. My basic point being, they don't care WHO buys their allotted amount of cars, so long as they're bought.

Yeah, I know you're right about that , though the RS is still equipped with the ACD, just for clarification (which is by far the more apealling of the active systems in my opinion).

And I'd like to 2nd the later comment that, no, I don't believe any of us are so stupid as to think these systems effect drag racing. I would find that insulting to the LOWEST form of intelligence who has discovered enough about this car to take any active part in these discussions. I couldn't care less about drag racing; I see the evo's power as a means of quickly getting from one corner to the next. If I had images of drag racing glory in my head, I'd buy an old muscle car which can do nothing BUT drag racing.

Please, people, stop getting so annoyed about this active discussion. It's a completely valid issue to discuss and I'm positive the majority of us are going to completely forget all these little issues when we get to take our first drive in our new cars, no matter what the final specs. Besides, what fun would this forum be if all we did was 'hey man, this car's gonna be cool', 'yeah man, it sure it', 'yeah, I think so too', 'oh yeah, it's gonna rock', 'well yeah, cool....um....I'll see you guys later...'

I definitely agree about it being a valid issue, but keep in mind we probably have near 2 dozen of these threads.

EDIT: And the only definite confirmation we get won't be for another month at least.

My thoughts (in random order)

Without ACD/AYC as an option, how can I possibly decide which is better? Some of you are lucky enough to try both, but we in the US are not. Saying that we would be better with or without it, is as stupid as saying we would be better with a 2wd vs 4wd or a FWD car. Who knows unless each person tries it.

Comparing the EVO in the US with or w/o ACD to a WRC car is idiotic. For anyone who actually is participating in Rally, this is a non-issue. Rally cars are built for reliability as much as all out performance (especially at the sub WRC level where there arent huge budgets and a pro mechanic team). To say that Makinens cars didnt have ACD doesn't mean crap to me. Its apples to oranges. I personally want to race in autocross and on the track. I have no intention to do any real rally race, and therefore having I want any aid that will make me faster in the activities I want to do.

One comment was that the EVO without the ACD would be more fun. To some driving a motorcycle is more fun, or driving a Honda is more fun. I want to be faster and win races, plain and simple. What is fun for me is having whatever I need to do that. If its a 5 day driver school or ACD or both that accomplish it, then so be it, but I want everything I can get.

I want ACD as an option, because from what I have read and seen, it makes the car faster in the type of racing I enjoy.

This thread is stupid because it contains nothing except some people forcing their opinions on others (on both sides of the argument including my own post). If the option is here we can decide for ourselves. If it doesnt come, no one here will ever be able to make an informed decision...its as simple as that.

I can't think of any more random thoughts (concerning this topic).

Hey we want the evo price to be lower hence there is no ACD and AYC. Why complain, if we want the works, somebody has to pay, and that is not going to be mitsubishi, durability wise and maintenance.

Prices will eventually drop..when and if US/Canada demands either grow or keep steady even with intial 35k to 40k price range.
The EVO VII is actually cheaper at present time than when I bought my EVO IV brand new...but in return other models in their line-up like Galanta VR-4 and the Diamante actually got more pricey. The same should happen for the US/Canada
If their market analyst recognize the shift of consumer demand and interest, they will do everything vialably soundsto be able make their product more affordable to majority...especially if they can take a big chunk out of the competitions sales market....ie. HONDA and SUBARU growing mid-size sedan market. It's just now a question of how long before the price starts to drop or how quickly the interest demands grow. Remember, there are still ALOT of consumers out there that STILL don't recognize the awesome performance of the LANCER/EVO so SPREAD THE WORD guys or don't; An be the only guy/gal for 50miles to be an EVO owner because other people can neither afford or desire to dish out 35k to 40k for the car. PEACE
