Any solutions for a stripped nut?

Well, I stripped a nut while trying to install the weapon r engine dampner. It's the middle nut where you would install the mount for the engine-side of the installation. I tried WD-40 and the nut isn't THAT stripped yet, but I'd rather not continue to damage the nut with my socket wrench.

If you have a friend with a set of SnapOn tools, the box end wrench is designed to make more contact with the side of the nut (than an ordinary wrench); I have been able to turn some pretty stripped out nuts with a SnapOn wrench. Otherwise a heavy duty vice grip maybe? Good luck.

snapon? are they anything like socket wrenches? the way that the nut is situated, it's impossible to get to it with a regular wrench because there are tubes and such in the way.

Step 1 ... don't use WD-40!!! WD-40 is a solvent, not a lubricant. You need a good penetrating oil. The best products out there are "BreakFree" by CLP Industries and "RemGuard" by Remington. You can find this stuff at fish and tackle shops or gunshops. The best commonly available stuff is "3-in-1" penetrating oil. Spray a good oil on the stuck nut and let it soak overnight. Then attack it with a good box-end wrench. Snap-On is great.

If that fails, then use a properly-sized vice-grips pliers. Make sure you use the gripping kind (and not the clamping kind, which will do even more damage).

If that fails, take the car to a good shop and have them burn off the bolt.

Stripped nut remover or snap-on 6 sided socket. Anything else will damage it and make it more of a pain. Also use PB blaster I love that stuff and it works so fast.

I dont think you want any type of torch near the engine mount or timing belt area.

do you mean that the outer corners of the nut are rounding off? (you have the wrong size socket) hide those standard tools and use only metric on your mitsu
do you mean that the nut turns but does not come off ( you are screwed) (get your dremel out and cut the nut enough that you can break it off)

what about removing a bolt from stripped thread?

One of my rear strut mount thread is stripped, bolt just free spins w/o coming out. I guss I'll need to cut them off and get a new strut mount...or is there a another way?

I'm not sure, I have not looked at the bolts you are refering to, but once the nut is off, you might try cuting new treads on the stud/ bolt with a thread chaser. Unless of course the bolt is easy to replace.

It may be possible to fit a slightly smaller dia. nut on the newly cut stud, say a standard thread that falls between to metric sizes.

It's a sick feeling when a stud goes blank isn't it.
