that's not that bad.

Shlt happens and I'm glad you're ok. Least you didn't bend the rims.

It sucks, but it's meant to be and you'll move on to something better.

i was pretty bummed yesterday, specially when the dealer called to tell me new rims were $940 each. but im going to try a wheel repair shop and see what they can do, after that to the dealer for the abs (hopefully warranty)

$940 each? WTF. You could get a set of rims for that. Dealers always rip you off anyway.

BBS's been overpriced for the longest time.

so if i asked the people who wrote the owners manual, they would say the break-in period is higher than what they published/recommended?

Insurance should cover the wheels right? If so, I'd just go that route. If you're gonna have to pay out of pocket, just get some volks! It'll still come out way cheaper than getting rims through the dealer.

Oh BTW, you're most likely going to need to get your car realigned after this incident.

Sounds like you damaged your ABS sensors. The impact was probably a little bigger than you think.

Not true. The center diff never sends more than 50% of it's power to the rear wheels. So, in gravel mode the car actually behaves more like a FWD car...not RWD!

Anyway, RWD vs. FWD was not the problam here. Sounds like you spun because of unintentional trailing throttle or trail braking. Any stiffly-sprung car with summer tires would have reacted the same way. Go to a good driving school with the BMW CCA or the PCA and learn how to drive a performance car before you end up hurting yourself

sorry to hear about your car. i had similar experience last nite. it was raining and i was making a left turn, only i was starting to move when the light turned green. just as i made the turn i gave it gas, too much may i add, and the back came out way more than it did on dry when i've done that before (obviously due to wet pavement). i countersteered but as the car started to grip pavement again it went forward (at about a 50 degree angle and 10-15mph) and hit the curb of the grass island thingie that separates 2 opposite street lanes.
the curb was some 6+ inches tall. the car went UP on the curb and had one wheel on the grass. aftermath: stripped front lip, cracked buttom of front bumper, dent at the bottom of the intercooler, stripped splash guard, license plate, bumper separated from fender on driver side, driver front rim has slight dent on the lip. the car feels very slightly out of alingment, but my most concern is that the steering wheel is now about 7 degrees off center.
i have 1300 miles on it and before i drove and autocrossed an integra, so i'm not used to knowing exactly when power-oversteer is about to happen (haven't had the chance to autox the EVO). i'm very cautious when i drive and i only let loose when there r no other cars around (like this time). from what i see, i can get the intercooler at like 250 shipped from the classifieds. how much does the alignment cost at mitsu?

I had the same problem with my 04. I just put on my turbo back exhaust (cat delete) and slid the the rear end out. (It was wet, and I wasent used to the new power.) I was not able to correct in time and hit the curb. small scratch on the front lip, bent bouth the rims on the drivers side and the steering wheel was off center. Instead of letting the dealer rip me off, I bought a set of new rims, and had the alignment done. How much dose it cost to get some driving lessons at a auto-X?

Solo 2 (auto-x) is not really a good place to learn to drive. You generally have no instruction and most courses are set up in such a way that aggressive, harsh inputs are needed to muscle the car around. This is fast on a tight auto-x course, but very slow and very dangerous in a real track setting.

Go to a real HPDE/Advanced Driving School. The PCA and BMW CCA are great places to start. They have chapters all over the US and Canada. You will gave intensive classroom and 1-to-1 in-car instruction at real race tracks. You'll be amazed at how much you can learn. Cost typically will run around $100-150 per day.

i'm 26. i don't weave in/out of traffic when i drive unless i'm really in a hurry to get to a gas station to take a dump, dont' ask so i drive very conservatively unless, like i said, there aren't many/any cars around. last thing i wanna do is kill some kids. i take my road rage to autox. for Deepseadiver: www.autox4u.com if your on the east siiieede and www.scca.org is for all other locations. normally it's $30-35 for a day where u get 6-8 runs depending on number of participants. you can have someone with experience there ride shotgun or drive your car so you can see what it can do. people there are usually very friendly and helpful. how much did u pay to get it aligned? and did the crooked steering wheel prob go away? i need just the front aligned. did u have bent tie rods?

hopefully we'll all learn on our mistakes. good luck ppl!
