Where did you say you worked again??

Most techs are a little more thorough than that..I hope you arent the guy looking at MY next certified car..

I'm not saying that there is anything at all wrong with a certified used car program. Just make sure you are getting something tangable, i.e. extended warranty, for the extra money.

Certified means dick. Acura sold me a "certified" RSX-S. The transmission took a **** on itsself 6000 miles later because the previous owner abused the **** out of it.

Well it seems to me if it was certified, everything should have been covered right. They should have replaced the tranny for free, right. The certified program means that the dealership guarantees the car is in good running condition. If the car is not then they should cover all parts and labor.

But sense It really doesn't make a difference to you may be you should have LocaLT1 inspect your Evo for you, with his Mustang a Pontiac experience

Nice, see what if you had bought this car privately "AS IS". You would have been screwed.

yeah, except when i strolled into GLENDALE mitsu 4 months ago, with a loan already from the bank, you jokers tried to sell me a 03 with 15k miles on it for 31... not even OTD.
even though you had 05s sitting across the lot with stickers of 34k on them

is that the good deals you speak of?

and when i pointed the price difference out you guys said "ohhh, so you want a new one?"
hahaha
bought mine privately a few days later for 22,500 and never looked back.

Sounds like a great idea, until you think of the people 'certifying' the vehicle. Most mechanics know jack about Evos. Then you think of the added price of this '127 point' inspection aka kick the tires and top off the fluids. PS if you do fit new tires, don't get cheap a ss tires like our local dealers do. I've seen Fuzions and ES100's on Evos at lots because they didn't want to spring for the Advans. What a waste. I've even seen one with Advans on the back and Fuzions on the front! Then there is that 'extended warranty'. Well, I pretty much don't consider that I ever had a warranty being that everyone has so many issues, so IMHO I would rather save the cost of the 'certified' evo for a normal used one, and rely on personal inspections and good judgement. You can't avoid getting a lemon sometimes, but you can avoid paying too much for it.

It would depend on the dealer. If the dealer had/has a good reputation, then sure, I would have no problem buying a certified used EVO.

What I would like to see more from the dealer is better warrentee service. The biggest problem mitsubishi faces today is the perception (or reality when you own an EVO) of the poor customer service when you bring in your car for service.

I used to own a WRX and later a STI. The whole reason I stuck with Subaru was the excellent service I got from my local dealer. Look up Subaru of Santa Cruz on the subaru message boards and you will find more satisfied customers than those complaining.

Mitsubishi can play what ever gimic games they want on used or new cars, but until they solve the warrentee service problem, mitsubishi will continue to lose sales.

Sorry about the treatment, I wasn't working @ Glendale 4 months ago.

#1 Why don't you guys use the internet for the best deal.
Do you really expect to get the best deal walking onto the lot. Then talking to a salesman who doesn't know jack about the car he's trying to sell you. Come On. Do some reaserch find the best deal on the net. And regardless if you walk on to the dealership always ask for the internet/fleet manager. They can alway give a better deal than anyone else.

So if anyone walks in to a dealer and pays over MSRP for a New Evo or 30,000 for a preowned Evo with out talking to me first, it's on you.

not blaming you, just letting you know what some of us deal with.

that 03 was on the internet for 26k.
but it had a sticker on it of 31k
they just kept ignoring the fact that i had info on the 26k price and was looking to drop that price a little since the car had over 15k on the odometer.

the sales guy (seeing as how he knew nothing about the car and knew he couldnt out talk me) folded early and wanted to make me a good deal
the manager, well, he wanted to take me for a ride.
guess he figured i looked young and dumb (although i will admit to having a mullet, handle bar mustache, nascar hat, and cop glasses on at the time)

next day (after seeing an evo on the net for 25k down at tustin, and calling the sales manager to see if the price was negotiable, which he assured me it was) tustin tried to take me for just as much of a ride... however when i got there they told me there was no way the car could sell for less than that special sale price which they didnt even know if they could still sell it for, but also they started showing a different guy the car at the same time and telling me that he was willing to pay more.

none the less, i got what i wanted else where for the price i wanted.

That's what you think
I see what you are saying..

As consumers we are lead to BELIEVE that the car has been inspected properly.

But folks, that goes without saying. On ANY car. ANY pre-Owned Program.

Ultimately, the inspection relies on the abilities of the tech performing the certified pre-owned inspection itself. But there will be and will always be the "human error" element. The difference however, is the WARRANTY BACKING you recieve that you wouldn't if you bought privately. This is what really covers the guy who's tranny fails. Or the engine craps out.

There are arguments for and against purchasing a CPO car.

Bottom line is the majority of the consumers are in fact willing to pay more and DO pay more for this pre-owned protection.

You just can't argue with the numbers, really.
