I think it has alot to do with the bushings used in the suspension...and an Evo has stiffer shocks/springs/roll bars which also help. I believe the stock evo tires are stickier than the stock sti tires, although not by much.

i think it has a lot to do with the wheelbase of the evo

wider/longer is better for handling in very simular cars

subaru sti

Wheelbase 99.4
Length 173.8
Width 68.5
Height 56.3

evolution

Wheelbase (in.): 103.3
Length (in.): 178.5
Width (in.): 69.7
Height (in.): 57.1

and in the evo, the weight feels better distributed to the wheels.

What he said.... and also, the steering ratio. The steering ratio on the Evo is "quicker".

The driver?? that makes no sense if the same driver dives both cars. That was a stupid answer.

I dont know how good the us models EVO go against STi. But in Japan Auatralia and the UK the technology in ACD and AYC is far greater to the DCCD in the STI.

That is a major reason. Though there are others.

I would say it's more than that. In just about every head to head shootout between the two, the journalists/drivers say the Evo seems to handle better in the corners, and feels more stable. Driver is a huge factor though.

I think he was jokeing.. One mayjor proprietor to the head to head shoot outs are the tires. Its true the sti's dont get as nice of tires as the EVO

I was just messing around. I think the wider wheelbase and shorter steering ratio are the biggest reasons why. From all I've read it sounds like the '05 STi with its wider rims and tires is pretty much even now with the Evo. In all honesty guys, 99.9% of Evo owners will never push their car that extra c*nt hair of difference that it has over the STi. I think both cars outhandle most of their owners.

1. Biggest difference is the tires. Period.. plus the EVO comes with 235 vs Sti 225 width tires.
2. More balanced suspension, less prone to understeer compared to the STi thus providing higher grip. The EVO actually has comparable spring rates to the STi but harsher set shocks.
3. Quicker ratio steering, approx 13:1 EVO compared to approx 15:1 STi
4. It is possible that the EVO MR/RS with aluminium roof has a lower "center of gravity" thus helping with turning

Both cars have stiff chasis and the STi actually has a tighter curb to curb turning radius. 34ft compared to 37ft, I think ... corrent me if I am wrong guys ...
