05' RS Factory gauge kit question
Picked up our 05' RS last night. I just finished relocating the factory gauge kit to the spot when the radio normally is. My questions is on the temperature gauge in the kit... What temperature is it monitoring? It doesn't appear to be coolant temp like the gauge near the tach. Is this outside air temperature?

Also...what are your impressions of the car so far? And if I dare ask without starting another flame-fest, {whispering} how does it stack up in terms of power with your SRT-4?

but the stiffness of the chassis is what comes to mind first, its incredibly rigid. very very rigid, that i like, i like alot. Its not quite as harsh a ride as my neon with the factory ACR struts, but im sure it handles better anyways. The steering is so fast it makes me giggle 13:1 rack is very nice, but look away from the road for a second and your 3 lanes over from where you were
The interior is way cheap, even compared to a POS neon. the headliner is cheap, the sunvisor are laughable, the doors are very thin and cheap feeling, but you know what? Who cares! We didnt buy the srt-4 for the interior quality and we certainly didnt buy the evo for its interior either, these are both cheap *** cars when they start life. they get upgrades where it counts.
The recaro's are nice, not nearly as good as the seats in the srt-4 in terms of keeping you put, but the recaros have the holes for the race belts, but if i race the car i lose the warranty, so im not sure that is really a feature..
The car is too quiet, even with the gutted trunk and no sound dampening material, all you hear are gasping an wheezing noises from the engine bay and the howl/roar noise from the stock tires. If I never got into boost you'd never know what lurks under the hood again, for most poeple this may be a concern, but i'm a function before fasion guy and i dont care
We got red and the dealer told us the huge white splotches on the hood are normal and will go away after the sun hits it for a while, all the red evo's at the dealer were like this, dosent say much for mitsu quality? Most people would look at the car and be like "no way im buying that car" but again, evo, so who cares, you buy this car for what it does... Ok, well some evo owners go for the bling bling and how people look at you when u drive, but thats not me, i like to remain anoymous, no wing helps We did get free wheel locks tho, not sure if thats this dealer or if all evos get them? We found them in the glove box.
So far so good, driving around alot to get it broken in. Then im sure the power will feel the same as the other 05' we test drove. It would be nice I think if Mitsu made this motor about 300hp, why mess with the 276 stuff when 300 could be done safely. Then the STI would go away We took the car to the truck scales and we got 3180 with 3/4 tank of gas, this car is still heavy for being a "lightweight". Stock for stock the the srt-4 is faster on the highway, it has a better power to weight ratio, its as simple as that. But thats the only place the srt-4 will be faster. But for me I drive on the highway 99% of the time, so thats where i want my car to be fast I will be driving the srt-4 daily and she will be driving the evo. Both are awesome cars made possible by the first turbo sport compact car the Omni GLH Turbo (My first car) And no, it didnt have a mitsu turbo, it was garret like all the 2.2 turbo's back then. The 2.5's got the mitsu turbos.
Mamma always told me "You better stay in spool"

Great review omniphil! I test drive one tomorrow and your post gives me a lot of stuff to look for.
How is the throw on the shifter? I have the Mopar STS right now on the Neon. Is it as tight?

There is also a write up in the how to section. I also calibrated the boost gauge when I took it out (was 0.2 psi off) and swapped boost and volts so the boost gauge was on the left instead of right.
These are where the gauge should be mounted in my opinion, the factory location is pretty useless for viewing while driving.
