well since we already know a 35K MSRP is bull****, you should call shenanigans on them.

well said streetlancer....
Well, I don't really have a choice since they aren't being released north of the US border but i wouldn't put down a deposit like that without driving it either. Mind you I understand why some ppl have...looks like an awsome ride.
The signed contract could be fought, but is it really worth the 5k? I had to go head to head with my dealer about a tranny problem in my cavalier....in short it was not a nice thing to go through, nor did things happen timely. What I'm getting at is if you try and play hard ball with them, expect them to do it down the road if you have warranty stuff to do. With me, no other dealers wanted my problem although it was all covered under GM warranty. You could see the same thing...I think you did a smart thing by just going elsewhere.
I also agree although MMC says they are limited in the first year, somehow i have a hard time believing that only 5000 are being released. If those are the official numbers i won't be surprised to see another 5-10k within 6-8 months. Not sure when the new models arrive for the upcoming year for you guys in the US, in Canada it is generally late summer to early fall. I imagine it's the same.

I have a new WRX.. When they first came out, they said the same thing to me about "Limited Production"... I told them to kiss my *** and left... The next month I saw about 20 of them sitting in the parking lot just waiting to be taken... DO NOT FALL FOR THE SCAM..... Remember, these sales reps are just trying to get thier piece of the commission... AND!! You can ALWAYS get them to lower the price at least $2,000 under the sticker price... Don't let them run the deal, YOU run the deal, it's your money that you're spending.. Screw'em...

$2,000 under MSRP (particularly on an EVO)??? Are you nuts. With Mitsubishi 85% of the models don't even have that kind of markup.

Where I had my deposit is no longer MSRP .... they said "MARKET PRICE TO BE DETERMINED AT TIME OF DELIVERY". I noticed on my sheet where they said MSRP but then it says on the sheet that the price is subject to change.

Same with mine. "...at a price to be determined at time of delivery..."

I also just got off the phone with my dealer and he said he still doesn't know a thing about the Evolution nor when they are going to place orders for them. . . and so the wait continues

i wonder if our msrp list is good. are the dealers listed there gonna honor msrp for the evos???

IIRC Irvine Subaru is very good to the Subaru community. I think it was them that had a saleswoman that would post regularly in the dealer classifieds section of the (former) I-Club with great prices on factory products like short throw shifters, clear corners, etc. for Imprezas. They always got rave reviews.

just wondering about my chance of getting one later in the year at or below msrp.
Yes, I think the WRX's went for MSRP when they came out. I don't think there was any markup really, though. And they were "limited" release at first. But they eventually started showing up en-masse on all dealer lots... I think it took about 3 months after the first batch for delears to regularly stock the WRX.

If you look at the tech debrief thing on the Evo, there are "launch product mix" and a "first year product mix" pie graphs. Notice that the overall mix in the end will have more large spoiler-only models than the initial launch. So obviously the first release will be limited and then a larger batch will show up as the year progresses. And they're trying to get as much $$$ as possible by shipping the large spoiler + sunroof as the majority of the first shipment.

Its like Tickle Me Elmos, Color Game Boys, The Legend of Zelda, and them little *** remote control cars.
This all sounds like more Mitsu salesperson rhetoric.

Just because something is limited edition, doesn't mean the prices will be jacked up beyond MSRP everywhere. AND I KNOW! I've been there before when I bought my Integra Type R in Feb 2000.

Not all dealerships care about making the extra few $$'s on each car they sell. Many want their allocations increased for the next model year for a particular car. So they concentrate on making the cars they have more attractive than the same car at other dealerships....by not makring up the prices.

Some dealers value a good car buying transaction. If you have a good buying experience, you will likely be willing to recommend them to other buyers or to return there yourself to make future purchases...one way to make for a good buyer experience is to make sure the buyer doesn't feel like he's been ripped off. (selling above MSRP paints the delaership as greedy and inconsiderate of their customers)

I think we'll find the dealerships who are trying to sell at pie in the sky $40k prices will come down quickly once they see that their buyers are not interested in buying Evo's for that price.

At a $40k pricepoint, there are many other cars available (new and used) that are more capable and just as interesting.

No that was just David Williams opinion on supply versus demand based on my own personal exeperience. So you say you got a deal on your Type R. That doesn't make this the same situation. If the demand is greater then the supply then there will be higher costs to be paid. That's it.
