Well, 1800 miles on the new 05' RS and the rear felt like it was dragging the brakes or something, took it to the dealer and they said it was the differential, lol

---------------

With all the quality issues surrounding this car we're beginning to wonder, the drivetrain is impressive, but the rest of the car is bottom of the line crap. Not that we were expecting a luxury car interior, but I mean even my SRT-4 dosent creak and rattle and Its got 12,000 miles on it already...
Sorry to hear you are having problems with your brand new EVO.... It's terrible to go through all that crap with a brand new car. I hope they take care of it soon and get you going again.

I do think however that the creaks and rattles may not be a defect at all. After all, you bought an RS and those are about as bare bones a car as you can get. My '03 EVO 8 and my new '05 MR are not bad at all. I only had one problem in the '03 with the A/C compressor and they fixed it no problem even though the car was modded to hell and back and the tuners messed it up .

I don't think you can compare it with the SRT-4 even if you removed the sound insulation off the SRT-4. They are very different cars, the RS is hella stiffer plus it has AWD. It's gonna be noisier and if anything is loose, it'll rattle more. If you hate it, you might want to sell or trade it for a GSR or MR...... Did you test drive it before purchasing it? I've never driven or ridden in an EVO RS so I cannot tell you for sure, but yours might be quite normal outside of the problem you are having.

Good luck & Merry Christmas

my srt4 has rattles and i only have 2k miles on it. i guess it varies from one car to another. never had issues with my evo when it was minimally modded.

Yeah, I here ya. I mean the cars are not perfect.. I guess I'm concerned because Mitsu is so picky about the warranties. We we're going to put all season tires on yesterday but the car fell apart, I'm kinda glad it did before we got the tires on or else they might think the tire install place did something... The service guy even asked us if we had changed the fluid at all after looking at the diff, I'm assuming they found that the diff was either dry or low on fluid...

As far as the RS and noise is concerned, Its more that I laugh at it. I like cars with minimal options, thats why we went with the RS, the RS is built for people like me, that will give up almost everything to enhance performance.. My srt-4 has gone the same way, I have removed the AC and all the power options, I really do prefer manual windows, I guess I'm strange... I just figured it wouldnt creak so much, Its ok, the car performs above what I expected so I will forget the quality issues.

I was just bumbed because this means modding the car now will probably not be a good idea...

I just wish the RS models deleted AC too.... I'm a function before fasion kinda person and the RS is almost exactly what the doctor ordered I know I would not be happy driving around in a regular Evo 8, power options that aren't nesaccary would just bug me...

I'm still wondering if the 1.6 bar boost spikes are normal

I hear you about the fear of mods..... I do think that you can prolly mod the car quite a bit and not worry about the warranty if you can undo the mods easily yourself. For instance, the exhaust is not too big a hassle to change and it can give you as much as 30 whp! The XEDE is also very easy to remove and the car will be totally stock as far as they are concerned. I think there are about 40 whp to be had with just those 2 mods......... As for the boost spikes, I'd make sure that your gauge can be trusted. It might not be spiking at all......
Originally, the RS was supposed to come without A/C but they knew it would not sell like that. You live in a cold climate so you can easily do without A/C, but if you lived in GA or worse yet, in FL or LA, MS or many other places, you'd be really pissed without A/C ....
Maybe you can have the dealer OK your removal of the A/C compressor and associated stuff..... It weights a good bit and puts parasitic drag on the engine. Also, you can probably sell the thing for a good bit

As far as the RS rattling: It's cold. Get used to it. Wait until it warms up. If that doesn't fix it, then you need to stand on the throttle a bit more so that the exhaust drowns out the sound of the plastic rattling aroung.

Now, for that commercial, can we do this:

Have someone show up in a modified Evo car and complain about the stock clutch / front differential / synchros dying on it, even though my car is putting down 350 WHP. Then even complain about the rock chips on the hood that Mitsu should warranty because they are liable for all the road debris out there, since the car was bought without rock chips. Then whine about how the floor mats are slightly different color than the carpet and how the Recaro seats clash the rest of the car's color scheme. Throw a fit about how the front calipers change to a darker color red if they are used hard, pout about how the tires wear out quicker than tires found on a Camry....You get the idea.

While you all are making that parody commercial, I'll be out enjoying my car. There was a petition on here a couple of years ago to bring the Evo over to the US. Now it seems like everyone is biting the hand that feeds them?

Yeah I take that "best backed" statement with a grain of salt.

If I had leased an Audi I would have had everything taken care of for me... even oil changes... and they would have loaned me a car. To my knowledge Mitsubishi can't even come close to that.

...but I bought an Evo... bought it, not leased. I had the full intention to modify it and never bring it to the dealership.

I would be bummed if my rear-end needed replacement under 2,000 miles. But it seems they're taking care of that. So it would seem they're backing the car in some capacity. But I agree not in the best way.

Fit and finish pieces should be covered under warranty as well. My Evo doesn't have any rattles or squeaks whatsoever.

Ok, so I'm the girl who drives this Evo RS most of the time. I just got off the phone with the dealership and this is the "story" they want me to believe. They told me that they put the new rear differential on and that the car is continuing to have the same problem. They "believe" it is doing this because it's new and that it will "eventually" stop.

Uh yeah......Sure Spanky, whatever you say.

Needless to say I don't believe a word of what they're spewing because I drove the car for almost 3 weeks without a problem. Told them that too. They want me to come pick up the car because "it isn't doing them any good." I'm just about ready to turn the keys over to them and ask for my money back. And here just a week ago the only thing I was worried about were white spots on the hood.

Thoughts? Ideas? Anyone have any good sarcastic comments I can feed these bozos?

Here's my suggestion. Drive it to a dodge dealer and trade it in on a srt-4, lol
