Is your aftermarket exhaust legal in FL? Nope.

I was pulled over yesterday afternoon in the city of Westminster, Ca for having a loud modified exhaust. I have a Helix Turbo Back (3”) w/ cat delete.
I was stopped at the light and this police car was making a right turn when he stopped (he had the green light) and looked in the direction of my car. I saw him looking in my direction so played if off as if I did not see him. Anyway, he proceeded to turn right then pulled into a small strip mall. The light turn green for me and I proceeded as I passed I noticed the police car trying to merge back into traffic – and he did. Then I noticed him dodging in and out of cars until he pulled behind me and flicked his lights on.
I knew he was watching me so I did not go over 40 mph or 3K RPM. When he walked up to my car he said he stopped me because I have a modified exhaust. Now I have a fix it ticket and this really sucks!!!!!!!!!!! It could have been worse as I do not have a front plate and he did not look under the car to notice the cat delete.
Look Out Everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!

^^ They are going to make you change you're exhaust back to stock? That sounds like some bull**** to me, I can see they making you change tint and the light up windshield washers if red or blue, but an entire exhaust is just stupid.

I had a modified exhaust on my old car in los angeles and i just took the car to the court house and they have an exhaust testing facility next to the sheriff’s office which consists of a small parking lot. I turned on my car, let it idle, and he signed off on my fix-it ticket after listening to if while standing in front of the car... not very scientific but i didn't complain. They are supposed to get a db reader and measure it at over 95db... you can go to a cal certified exhaust referee shop and have them do their own test and you can show it to the judge if you want to have the cost of the fixed fix-it ticket waived if your exhaust is within the legal limit and you want the ticket thrown out. Then call the cops internal affairs department and file a harassment complaint citing the thrown out ticket as proof of harassment and illegal profiling by the officer. He'll think twice before writing another bs exhaust ticket especially when it leaves a blemish on his permanent record. In your case I’d switch the exhaust and cat back to stock before going in though If they don’t play fair there is no reason we shouldn’t as well. Sadly it’s all about the letter and not the spirit of the law.

The cop said you can modify the exhaust but it can't be louder than stock and the GHL isn't even close the way it pops and crackles on the downshifts. After all was said and done the cop said it sounded good and way better than most of the coffee cans he hears around town.

In FL, cops won't pull you over for just exhaust noise. There has to be multiple reasons. If you are still sporting gen 1 clear taillights, they will pull you over as with colored washer lights (the latter seems to be dying down - maybe the fad is dead).
