Any 05 Evo 8's having problems?

Hey all -

I'm curious... I've been reading threads about the synchros going bad. I've also read threads about TC's going bad...

Have any of you had any problems?

I only have 1700 miles of pure bliss! (knock on wood)

I already changed the oil, but plan on doing the driveline fluids once I can source some OEM stuff. I've been having a hell of a time finding this stuff.

I'm really itching for the track season so I can see what she can do!

Aloha! Hau'oli Makahiki Hou!

What do you mean by stuck a lot?

Are you having trouble putting it in gear?

It's not going into gear?

Is it grinding?

I find that the shifting has been a little notchy, but it's been getting cold here. Last week it was about 24 degs F.

I find that as the tranny warms up it gets a little looser. The "notchiness" per se isn't a bad thing. It kinda gives me that snick snick feel. I have a short shifter in my M3 which makes the throws pretty nice and short.

I haven't had any grinding gears or anything like that.

Like I said. I have low miles, but I've been pushing her harder and harder. I'm probably not going to do any aggressive launches since I'm not really into that. But when I do "get on it" I tend to slam through the gears...

The tranny should be able to take that as well as the clutch.

That's the thing.

My car purrs like a kitten. I do occasionally hear an odd sound, but nothing out of the ordinary.

Have I mentioned this car is incredible?!?!

You have to understand, when problems are reported on this site, it seems to amplify that there is trouble with these cars when its just not true. A VAST majority of these cars are not having trouble.. Many of the problems people are having may just be user error, and what is left would be legitimate problems..

This forum is a fishbowl, people on this site are generally more aware of these cars and the scene. Keep in mind MOST of the cars on the road are owned by people who have no idea of this forum and many don't even know forums like this even exist.. And we as a group on this site generally are harder on our cars, and modify them pretty quickly.

Take alot of what you read here with a grain of salt. The people who are having trouble.. Take a close look at your driving style and what your doing when you find you have a problem.. then BRING IT TO THE DEALER and have it fixed if you feel its a problem.

I own a highly modified 03, and have never had any issue with the car with the exception of a TSB repair and a water seal recall. I have done things with my car that nobody should.. However it runs fine, makes power, and is still reliable, I feel that my experience with the quality of the car is the norm. ITs just people with problems can be very militant and vocal because their venting frustration.

Your posts are always full of good advice and info. Thanks.

I understand how these 'web boards' work. LOL. I belong to a few for my M3. I realize that people rather complain than praise. lol.

I used to have a Cooper S. I got it when it first came out. Some people experienced problems whereas my modified Cooper S performed like a champ.

I look forward to modifying this car!

We own an '05 EVO RS and yes we have had problems. No they were not user error and yes we did take it to the dealership. The problem was with the ACD. LOL, of course the dealership replaced the rear differential before the actually found the problem.

We have had the same issue with the car not wanting to go into gear. Doesn't grind just won't engage. Only reverse though and after it has been driven for an hour or so. We usually just do one of two things. Shift back into first and then back into reverse or hold it where it stopped and just lift a little weight off the clutch and it goes right in. It hasn't happened all that often and we've owned several cars that have a "notchy" shift and they have all been like this. So it isn't a big concern. If it started happening more frequently then we would just take it back to the dealership and have them look at it.

Do you guys have the damn 2nd gear grind? This is pretty much the only problem I have, and it's so annoying! Changing the tranny fluid to syncromesh helped for a little time period only. Now it's back.

Have I mentioned that I love this car.

I'm looking at selling my M3 and turning this into my track car!

Sounds like lifter tick. Its was normal on my 95 Eclipse GSX and gears where notchy. It was hard to put in first and revers but I had a little trick where you just lift up on the clutch a little bit and it will go into gear. Thats what I had to do on my eclipse (8 years of nothing but abuse and still ran better than new) maybe it will work on the evo. Oh, I am ditching my 2004 Civic SI for an Electric Blue 05 EVO 8. I miss boosting so much!!! The Civic just couldn't compare to a turbo Mitsu. Oh, when I first got my GSX my clutch burned out at 19K. I guess I can come to expect the same from the Evo 8 he he he.

My 05 rattles just as bad as my old 03. Other than that, no problems at 1100 miles.
