The Competition

2005 Altima SE-R
2005 Mustang GT
2005 STi

No one is buying these cars or what? I never see Evos or any of these others.
I saw a couple 2005 Mustang V6s and one or two Sti. Not yet seem an Altima SE-R. I was at the dealership in Las Vegas and they were sticker pricing the Altima SE-R for over 30,000.00 We will see if they sell any of them. 260hp 3.5L of the Nissan Motor. Heard it was FWD. The magazines I read are not talking about it. A different strategy compared to how the 350Z was hyped.
You would think 2005 Mustang would be popular cause the price tag. People seem more interested in the look?

I really don't think anyone considering an Evo would also consider an Altima SE-R or Mustang GT. These three cars are are totally different from each other and are aimed at different segments of the market. I can't see how they's be considered "the competition."

But you're right. I'm surprised that there aren't more of these cars on the road...especially the Mustang considering how popular its horrible predecessors were. Maybe people are waiting for IRS?

how are they a different segment on the market than evo?

SE-R, I wouldn't buy because the engine internal's are weak, but for the price it's just not very performance oriented, then evo, but it's a lot more luxurious then evo or sti.

Stang GT is nice but it's needs more power.

STI is nice, I would buy them if they change the seats to recaro and refine the shifter.

I'd say that they all target the same general demographic consumer, however they are not comparable from a feature or performance standpoint.

The SE-R should do 0 to 60 in the high 5's. Which isn't bad for a full size sedan. The Nissan motors are bullet proof and are very well made, but the FWD will make wheel hop and torque steer ridiculous. I test drove a regular 6 cylinder 5 speed Altima and was impressed with the torque. The wheel hop on acceleration made it downright dangerous though. They won't go for 30K. Look at the GTO. Stickered for $35,000 but you can buy them with rebates in the mid $20's. Nothing sells for sticker. The Mustang is probably the nicest looking car on the road, but is around 200 pounds overweight. The future Cobras, Roush's and Saleens should be very interesting.

STi is the only one I would consider to be in the same class. Sure, all of them have good power but I guess it's up to personal preference.

LOL the nissan motors are bulletproof.
I bought a 2002 sentra brand new and within 1y.9mo. had 3 engines in it and finally got it lemon law'd. now my payment for the evo is 10 more than i was paying for that P.O.S.

Actually, I shopped the 05 Mustang against the Evo. I was coming from a 99 GT, so I was leaning towards the stang.....but, its too large for the small interior room, 200-300lbs too heavy, and the Cobras wont be out for another year or so and will probably push $38-40K.

The size and 4 doors sold me on the Evo....its a great family car (although the daughter does say its "bumpy")

So I guess the EVO must be a piece of crap too huh? How many posts have I seen for blown tranny's LOL! My 1993 SE-R doesn't use a drop of oil and I haven't had to put a dime in it except for tires and brakes. There are problems with every manuafacturer that are not necessarily indicative of overall quality. I'm afraid I trust Ward's engineers which judged the Nissans 6 cylinder as one of the best 10 engines more than your unfortunate experience. Sorry.

nissan motors used to be bulletproof, but that new 6 cylinder engine that they put in every car sucks a ss.

I've never seen a post about a blown tranny. I've seen posts about blown t-case.

All I hear from the nissan mech's are how crappy the new motors are.

I would rather have the JDM spec engines or even 300z tt engine. Now they're bulletproof with oil squirter and all.

They used to over build those engine back in the days. Now they under build it.
