Buying a used EVO

I am going to check out an 03 Blk Evo Saturday with 15,500 miles on it right now. It is located at a Mitsu dealer in NJ (I live in NJ as well). Anyway, its stock, and the only thing that grabbed my attention is that its originally from CA and it has had 2 owners.

Im confused why the owner is in CA and registered there, but goes to PA to go to Cottman transmission? Sounds weird. Any suggestions? Why not just take it to the damn dealer if its still under warranty. Also, how do I find out if this car is still under warranty (granted previous owner didnt take it to dealer with mods or something, if it even had mods)? Is there a Mistu number? Let me know what you guys think. They are asking $26,000 for the car, I wouldnt pay that, but high 24s seems fair. Thanks in advance. BTW, there is a major lack of EVOs for sale in my area. I am in a very populated area of central NJ and I did a 100mile search and only came up with about 8 EVOs.

Tom

Also, the fact that its originally from CA, I know they have different emissions laws, are there any differences?

Maybe the first owner bought it in california, moved to PA, repaired it then sold it or traded / or sold / trade in pa then dealer serviced it then sold it at an auction.

ca has stricter emissions law, but if the cars stock, all us vehicle meets cali emission laws, otherwise they can't sell the car in us.

I thought that, but then under the Cottman Transmission (9/03) it has another CA motor vehicle label saying:

08/02/2004 California
Motor Vehicle Dept.
Fontana, CA
Title issued or updated
Loan or lien reported

Definitely find out if the warranty is still good. I highly doubt it will cover the transmission since it has been serviced at Cottman, but I guess it depends on what they did to it. It sounds a little weird to me too, why not take it to the dealer to have it fixed. Must have been really abused.

I just called Mitsu and the car IS STILL under warranty. So that is relieving... but still, I guess I will know much more when I drive it. I am always mostly concerned with the transmission clutch, because Id like the stock stuff to last as long as possible. Ill eventually end up sending it out to TRE or SHEP but for now, I wanna just drive the car stock for a month or 2 with no problems so I can save some money for a nice clutch and whatnot.

Buy mine....31K miles though. But, it does have new tires, floor mats, and is garage kept.
JK, I would just run out and get an MR, and we don't want that.
There are a lot of used Evos out there, but there is the option of the 2004 RS. I have heard of new ones going for 25 - 27. You get a fresh car with a warrenty, and they are still on the lots. Good Luck.

yeah dude....go get a new one....shell out a couple more grand.....it's worth the peace of mind....

24k for used Evo with 2 owners.....

26k for new Evo with NO owners....

hmmmmm.......

besides...who knows what happened to that tranny on the used one...whether it's covered or not by Mitsu...if the DEALER you bring it too feels that the car has been modded, you're assed out!!!

swappin out to aftermarket clutch could void your powertrain warranty....so be careful....
