I am sure if it was a defect with the car he would share it with everybody so we would not have to worry about the same thing.
It was probably something that he did (not on purpose) that indirectly lead to the fire.

I bet the battery grounded on the hood, cuz he messed with the battery with the modding, and set the Rain X (VERY FLAMABLE) on fire, and so on. That is my guess.

Damn...that's rough...my wife had a 1998 Corolla that had a fuel line break or detach while she was driving home, and once that spraying fuel hit the exhaust manifold...BOOM!!! She just got out seconds before the fire exploded through the dash and engulfed the passenger compartment...the car was gutted...the dash was essentially vaporized. I still remember the date...April 23, 1999...we had to wait an extra two weeks for our claim to be processed for the totaled car because that same day, a freak hailstorm hit Northern VA and there were THOUSANDS of claims for hail damage, so the adjusters were swamped. We got a free rental car from our insurance company, though, so it was all good.

:LOL: man that sucks!!! reminds me of the time that I decided I was going to work extra hours one day while I was in college (and really poor) so I could get better XMAS presents. Well that day I ended up losing a $100 bill when I was doing a bank run, which was way more than I made that day.

Damn that sucks. I haven't had a car catch on fire yet. I hope that I never will. The hood vent saved your *** it seems. Without it, you would have had more fireworks. Good thing your battery didn't pop.
