I cant find 10W 30 oil! please help
I looked every where and cant seem to find 10W 30 oil in this country. I know it is recommended by Mitsubishi but is it really that necessary? The only thing close to it is 10W 40 or 5W 30. Would it be ok to use either one of these oils and if so which one should I get between those two? Thanks
Im sick of going to the store and asking for 10W 30 and I get the same reply"why would you use such thin oil" blah blah blah

5w-30 will be fine.
Check out WalMart, I know that you have it in Taipei, they carry Mobil1 10W-30 here in the states in a 5quart container, and I would think that they may carry it over there.
Good luck!

Seriously though, if they are questioning why you are using such a "thin" oil...but they are trying to sell you 5 W 30.....well, they need to have their heads checked.
If they continue to ask, just tell them that your car has tight tollerances and the bearings will gum up if you use anything thicker......Just feed them a line of crap because 10 W 30 is probably one of the most common motor oil viscosities in the world.

5w 30 is for cold climates, what does your dealer sell? I have never seen mobile 1 in 10w 40. The owners manual is very specific about oil for this car. Look at page 7-9. "If correct oil is not used, any oil-related engine or turbocharger failure, along with any peripheral engine or powertrain damage, will not be covered by your vehicle".

There is no walmart here and the guys that ask me stupid questions about the oil are not really trying to sell me other types of oils. They really dont carry that stuff and said barely anyone uses those oils. So im stuck here with either 10W 40 or 5W 30. Thats the closest that matches 10W 30 to my knowledge. They also have 10w 40, 15w 40, 5w 50, 10w 50. The current weather here is 63F in the winter times, most is it will drop down would be 40F. In the summer its average about 90-95F. I dont mind using which ever oil works now for winter because I hope I can find what I want during the summer time or maybe import it myself. I just need a oil change withing a week so if you think any of those oil is ok for now then let me know.
The only place that carries Mobil 10W 30 oil is the dealer. But I aint paying 18 bucks a quart. Why so expensive? Its Mobil 1 made in japan and imported as well Even the stores that carry the japanese mobil 1 are charging the same price.

What are the brands of the 10w40 and 5w30?
Something like Mobil Super S 10w40 wouldn't be too bad. It's still an ACEA A3/B3.. But i would never go with a SuperHP. Full dino oils in that grade just shear waaaay too much.
ferb!

I guess it is China that has the Wal-Mart. Taiwan has Costco, and they carry Mobil1 10W-30 in the States. It may be worth a look at Costco.
There is 1 store in Kaohsiung and 2 in Taipei:

mobil 1 as far as my knowledge goes does not carry a 10-40, as that is what most higher mile vehicles use.... 15-50 is the thickest grade... where as 0-20 and 5-30, being the lightest... i think....

After speaking to some tuners about turbo engines the 10W 30 is suppose to be the average oil that normal economy cars use. On turbo cars 10W 30 is too thin and is not recommended. I have a friend in the US who is also a tuner and he said 15W 50 is best for turbo cars. When I went to Autobacs and looked at every oil, most of them were 10W 40 or 15W 50 etc...but no 10W 30. Anyways there were a few types of motor oil from HKS, Greddy etc...mostly popular tuner brands and they were 15W 50 or similar but no 10W 30. Im sure their oils are for modified and turbo cars. I guess you cant go wrong using the type of oil they recommend

wait...
I take that back
you can get 5w 30 right?
why not use this? Mobile One calls their 5w 30 "Newer Vehicle Formula". and they call the 10w 30 "Higher-Mileage Vechile Formula"
With an 04, as long as you don't have like 60K miles on your '04 I would just use the 5w 30.
