Well, what I THINK is no...but if I didn't have an 03, I'd probably get the 05 for the above mentioned items. I really only want the new limited slip...but I'm just gonna play with my 03, take the money I save by not trading, and have some fun. I'm sure the IX will have some nice upgrades as will the X if it ever exists. I'm probably going to wait for a whole new version before taking the hit on a trade.

Get the MR or 05 RS if you want a performance increase with the aluminum roof. I went for the MR because i wanted the 6-speed and the softer ride. Compared to my 03 the 05 drive better and rides better without losing any performance

The centre differential performing well and able to limit front to rear axle “slip” on full throttle to a mean of around 0.6% on a slippery gravel surface. To put this in perspective, a good condition VC unit on a Evo 4,5 or 6 would struggle to be better than 30% aggregate slip value, which is traction going out of the window."

i've been pondering this same ? myself on swapping the 03 for an mr. i was looking at the mr cuz i get the lsd AND the hid's w/out having to add leather or a cheesy moonroof. i could get an 05 8 (again) & add hid's but that's about $1200. i might as well keep the 03 & add the front lsd ($1500). it all comes down to price. i can trade my 03 & get $24k, but the MR is $35 so if you figure for every $1k your payment goes up $20 then my car pymt would jump $180!!!!!!!!
i pay $637 on the 03 & i don't care what car it is, i will never pay $700 (or $817) for a 4 cyl car. that's mod money you're giving away.

Not worth it! Buy a better turbo, a Quiffe, or RS differential, and there you have it, a car that will be just as good as a MR, or RS. Sure, it will not have the "bling" factor, but it will be just as functional! I say hold out for a IX, or X for that matter, why lose all of that money trading up for a car that looks identical to yours? Wait until a body style change.
Just my opinion, but that is what you were soliciting, right?

And what about someone who has no evo at all? Would he be better off buying a used Evo or a brand new one, given the price difference. Actually, what is the difference in price between an excellently maintained used car and a new car?
