What rear speakers for the Evo?

Found lots of US Lancer discussions on the front speakers - but I want to replace the rears on my Evo.

Has anyone replaced the 2 rear speakers and had an easy install??

I know 6.5" will not work - already bought some Inifinity's that just don't match up. Found a set of Pioneer's on Bestbuy.com that are 6 3/4; not sure if they'll work though.

Crutchfield advertises a set of Alpine SPS-170A 6-1/2"/6-3/4" 2-way Speakers online. Not sure about those either.

THey are oversized 6.5" or 6 3/4" You sometimes need to make/buy a special mounting bracket to make it fit right.

Get some 6 1/2's and drill a hold right next to each speaker for the tweeter. If you purchase the Dynaudio Escotar's, then I'll be more than happy to do the installation for free.

The stock speakers are eurodin which is 7". I am not using my rear speakers because no one sits in the back. It would only be for rear-fill only. Just get a good set of componets up front with a sub in the rear and you will be fine.

I've already pulled out the stock rears, and there isn't much difference in sound in the car using just the fronts.
I'll take back the 6.5" ones I purchased for the rear, and might wait and see if there's enough sound from the fronts as is - then just put a small sub in the back.

Will 6.5" work in front - as long as they clear the window? I don't wanna amp these though...

I would recommend speakers in the rear as well as the front whether people sit in the back or not. If you have a head unit that can support it, you'll enjoy the surround sound effect it creates.

I put the Alpine SPS-170As in all four positions of my Evo. They fit pretty well and made a significant improvement in sound quality over the factory units. The car still lacks deep bass though, without a powered subwoofer, so I put one of them in a few weeks later. With an Alpine head unit, the SPS-170As, a Sirius satellite tuner, and the sub box in the trunk, I'm pretty satisfied with my sound system now.

I went with the Alpines front/rear. 6 3/4" I'm pretty happy but need to do a little more work. Using the supplied screws and mounting to the sheetmetal lets the speakers rattle at certain frequencies. Started using machine screws, washers, and nuts. It helps. My Sony HU also doesn't drive them enough, I bet it'd sound like a million bucks if I'd install an amp.

i'm running Niche Audio ns6.5c components up front (had to build baffles-see my new speakers post), with 250 watts rms going to them via a Sony xm2200gtx 2 ch amp. i also run a Fosgate P3 12" sub in the trunk with 670 watts rms (2 ohm load) by a Majestic ma1620a mono amp. my rear stock speakers are still in the deck but are not being used. if you want the rear fill go ahead & use it, but if you have enuff power you won't need them. they would be beneficial if u plan on running 5.1, 6.1, or 7.1 surround in the future though. by the way i got my components for $81 for the pair w/xovers!!!!!!!!!!!!! they handle 200 watts rms & are made locally here in AZ. the majestic amp is made by the same people as well ($119). i'm running 16 gauge cable to all speaks, 4 gauge power cable battery back, 200 amp circuit breaker, stock battery, & nothing dims or flickers. good luck!!

go with oversized basket 6 3/4" speakers and use the stock screws to mount them. forget the screws and clips that come with the speakers.

you don't have to change the rears, just upgrade your fronts then place fader towards front to create that stadium/concert effect.the rears are actually just for rear fill
