Anyone previously from the VW world??
Hey, I have a 97 gti vr6 and a 2003 gti 1.8t and want to get a evo. I was just wondering what are you impressions after you moved form a vw gti to a evo. Im planning on getting one but am still thinking. Tell me what you liked on the vw and dont like on the evo.

I had a 99.5 mk4 vr6 and a 2003 20ae gti (jazz blue) and the EVO is everyting I had wished the GTI's where! the Evo has been more reliable (over 10k and no warranty issues yet) the 03 20AE was by far the worst!

I had a 01 AWW GTI with some stuff. I absolutely loved that car, it was very fast, but it's no EVO. I get a third gear grind if I try to shift faster than my grandma but other than that the car is perfect. The suspension is nice and tight, the seats cradle you like mom used to and the performance is out of this world. Not to mention, NO SURGING!! No more stupid N75 valves, no more broken coil packs, no more broken window regulators. This is heaven. Get an EVO and see what you've been missing. I couldn't keep up with an STI in the GTI but now I eat 'em for breakfast.

i traded in a 02 1.8t beetle for the evo. if could be the smartest thing you ever did. i have been into vw's forever, i have owned 3 gti's, 2 beetles, and a jetta. i am more than happy with my evo versus any of them. the ride is harsh, the maintenance -expensive, the reliability is there, it seems thus far, but there are horror stories, and if you are going to mod you can kiss the warranty goodbye. i have almost 10k on my evo, and i havent had a check engine light yet. my beetle had been in three times by 10k. once you get in the drivers seat, you will forget any worries you had. the ride is wayyy worth the sacrifice.

Part 1: I traded a 2001 Jetta VR6 for my Evo. The Jetta was the 3rd VW that I have owned and all 3 were CRAP. The other 2 were MK2's, but seemed to be in great condition...they weren't. Granted, one of the MK2's was a Corrado G60...the worst watercooled VW known to man. Without going into a full-page rant, I will just say "I will NEVER own another VW product as long as I live"
Part 2: I have had a few small nagging problems wth my Evo and had very UNFAVORABLE run-ins with Mitsubishi North America and my local dealer. Aside from that, I love the Evo. It's a real head-turner and a real performer. It takes very well to bolt-ons.
Conclusion: You can't go wrong ditching the dub and gettin an Evo!

I traded a 99 Passat 1.8t the was modded. I loved the car. It actually never gave me any problems but there is just no comparison between the Passat and the Evo. Two totally differnt deasts. Like I said I never had problems with mine but VW's do have a tendency to be unreliable. I don't think you'll regret going with an Evo. I know I don't.

VW's??
Hey, I have owned a few, 85' Scirocco, 90' Corrado G60, 93' Corrado SLC, 96' GTi Vr6, 99.5 GTi GLX and a 01' Jetta 1.8T and loved them all. I wanted to get a Golf R32, but VWNA took too much time to get the damn thing over here. Test-drove a BBY EVo, had my 03' WW EVo the next week with no regrets.

I am amazed to see how many came from the DTM world of VW. I am glad I made the switch, and have no regrets one of the smarter decissions I have made. Quality/Reliability/Ride wise I think it is far better than the Gti I had, but its a different car all around. I am Motiv on vwVortex
Good Luck
The old Gti
