Sport Compact Car Magazine Feedback

Is it just me or are mags getting as bad as newspapers? Our local newspaper has more advertisement than actual content.
I think mags are a thing of the past.. there are far better resources online... and like someone mentioned above.. all the cars pretty much have the same mods. You could put a video screen on your gas cap and it still wouldn't impress me

I buy SCC when I see it has an interesting article on the Evo (other than that the Evo is fast...) what we really need is an Evo magazine, then we could all spend less time on here and more time reading what we want to know...SCC is by far the best tuner/imports magazine I've picked up, but when it comes to overall car knowledge I prefer Road & Track and Car & Driver, all they need is more Evo articles but I do have more copies of SCC than any other magazine because before the Evo I was just into cars in general...and for that, it's a great mag...I think I wouldn't subscribe or recommend subscribing, but if I saw an article on a friend's car, I'd definitly tell them to pick it up

I think you guys are fairely comprehensive in that Journalist way, but not as technical.
Anyway, my only feed back will be that you guys need to focus on each issue.
you need to focus on particular form of motorsports (like AWD/Turbo/tires/rims/exhaust/best buy/handling performance/ etc) and do each article that way instead of spreading all over very thin.

As long as there aren't any articles wasted on a Civic, I throroughly enjoy every issue. I particularly liked your feature on the Lotus Cortina, so more coverage of old-school compacts and classics would be cool. BTW someone out there must have tricked out a Saab 900 Turbo.

Hey guy! I love SCC, and I can never wait to get the next one. Really cool to see you guys showing up in the enthusiast forums to check things out. Hopefully you're reading these posts, because this here is your hardcore readership man.
To answer your questions:
-More of mostly the same stuff would make me buy it, see below.
-Yeah, don't like readers rides showing up in there all riced out. The mag's just not about that, and if there's not significant stuff under the hood, or at least starting with a decent car - they wrote to the wrong place to get their picture published I think.
-You're unique because you're about go more than show. You write for people who care more about how their car performs than how it looks or attracts chicks. You also paint stuff flat black which totally rules.
-Hell yeah.
-I'm 100% likely to renew.
-I think you guys are doing pretty well in the evo department. I think you give every car a fair shake and that's why I read. So I love that you keep choosing the evo over the sti (am I right guys!). I loved the evo orgy article, but lets see some more aftermarket stuff in the back for it. It's gotta be one of the most highly modified newer cars in the US.
One final request - MORE SLEEPERS! The people who read your mag love cars that look plain but go real fast. Sleeper of the month?
Another suggestion - collaborate with TOP GEAR my all time favorite car mag in the world. - Get Jeremy Clarkson to write some articles for you on how americans don't understand fast compact cars - Speaking of "orgy," they are already copying off of you:

- What would make you buy SCC every month?
- What does SCC do that you don't like?
- How are we unique to our competitors?
- Would you recommend us to a friend?
- How likely are you to subscribe?
- How are we delivering on the Lancer Evolution?
- What would you like to see on that particular model?
1. if it had a directory of local locations/times for meets/autocrosses/dynodays. If there were more technical articles/how to's for the evo. More content - Too much advertising and not enough reading material. Last time i picked up a SCC it had 1 article in it about an evo which was like 3 pages long, then nothing else in the mag I could use at all.
2. The bling aspect. You could probably split scc into 2 different magazines right now: 1. a very big Sports Compact Fo $hizzle Mah Rizzle and 2. a very small Sports Compact Car - sport edition.
3. You have more of a... hmm... cartoonish feeling to the magazine. Its part fantasy in a sense. Most of the reporters write articles depending on their own mindset rather than speaking to a non specific demographic - 30 year old with the mindset of a 16 year old - 16 year old report.
4. dont know. depends on what they wanted.
5. Depends on how the magazine changes
6. so so
7. tech how to's, performance changes based on mods, how times/hp/etc are derived. testing of various turbos/setups on different platforms (road/race/street/offroad/etc)

You guys need to do more comparisons of manufacturers products. Eg: If doing exhausts, give us HP gains, price, weight of components, fit and finish and finally loudness (Db) of them compared to stock.
I think you should tone down on the number of reader rides, most of them are pointless.
I do like the fact that you get the latest and greatest and give us readers your opinions on them. It wouldn't hurt to get more technical at times.
Tell us more about the different tuners out there, what cars they tune and how you like their work. What they have done good and bad.

For some reason, I pick up "Car" magazine and "Top Gear" magazine, because they cover better and written a lot better.
maybe you guys need to make your mag a bit thicker with better pix.

1) & 2) A little less bling--I don't care about monster sub-woofers, scissor doors, carbon fiber door inserts, et al. Maybe I'm getting old. A little less "Cheesecake," I can buy Maxim if I want semi-clothed women. More multiple-car comparisons--something akin to 10/03 "Evo vs. Germany." How about a $30k comparo: Evo vs RX-8 vs 350Zvs G35 sedan/coupe...people shopping for Evos are also considering G35s. Too much ad content. I would think that for a $25.00 annual subscription, readers wouldn't have to page through so much fluff. Have you browsed through Sports Car International lately?
3) SCC definitely has a younger "slant" than the car mags I subscribe to. I think Car and Driver is beginning to show it's age.
4) SCC delivers more coverage of the aftermarket scene. That's great if one is looking to modify, but less so if one is happy with 300hp right out of the box.
5) I am considering a subscription.
6) I think you guys have provided the readers with plenty of Evo coverage, perhaps more than some would like. Afterall, not only are some of us Evo enthusiasts, but we're automobile enthusiasts as well.
7) Let's see more immediate, minute--possibly time consuming--"Before and After" modification comparisons. Let's see how one Evo performs with stock tires vs r-compounds, stock pads vs ferodo pads, etc...
