i agree wholeheartedly of everything you said. it's just the whole attitude of this being the "REAL" (he capitalized it! haha) comparison is incredibly

(ie tuners and magazines) i think he cries everytime he reads mags about how teh evo trounces the sti with less power. In the end its one guy against a world of opposition so WHO TEH HELL CARES WHAT THIS GUY SAYS. and how hard core can a guy be if he just gets lowerings springs anyways?

side not.. why buy an enzo when u could buy an sti and some $200 springs and a $200 sway bar? and run faster times. plus u get to enjoy a soft comfy ride in seats that would offend a toyota camry driver.
Exactly, I love how some of you say "usually those STi guys are cool but this...." If you actually pay attention to the thread, no one is taking this very serious. The test this guy did was very onesided and didn't mention A LOT of variables that can affect these times. I certainly don't think that the STi would beat the EVO if the drivers had equal skill.

Don't categorize an entire forum for what one guy says. Everyone is kicking him in the nut right now.

BTW, this thread is worthless and stupid, and is just as much a gross misrepresentation as the guys thread at NASIOC.

If 90% of the magazine are voting evo, they can't be all wrong, can they?

Even playboy magazine voted Evo for its sex appeal.

Evo = Hot steamy young sex

STI = Mid age married sex.
couldnt have said it better

yea, in the top gears, they do lean towards the evo for performance, but they also still chose the STI over the EVO "no idea why", as they say.

^^^^

There are plenty of n00bs posting in that thread. Same thing is happening here. I don't think it accurately represents either forum. The Evo v STi threads tend to bring lots of n00bs out of the woodwork who can't just admit that both cars are good cars.

Anyhoo, driver is the most important variable when doing a comparison like this and the guy didn't keep it constant. It's useless.

BTW, how many of you guys who are talking about how "raw" and "soul of a sports car" the Evo is actually autocross or track your Evos, anyway? My guess is that it's a pretty small percentage. If you're not, what the heck did you buy it for? So that you could tell all your friends the lap times are lower in magazines?

I would be happy owning either car. For me tho, I have a mod friendly Subaru dealership 2 miles away, so I suspect that would be the tiebreaker. Until then I'm "making do" with my lightly modified WRX

Sigh, just to give you guys some perspective here's a good article to read.

http://www.caranddriver.com/article....&page_number=1

You guys need to loose this superiority complex. Out of the box the cars are so damn close that NONE of you will ever be able to walk an STi unless the guy driving it is clueless. Simply put, it takes a pro to make the Evo out drive the STi, and you guys aren't it

And lets not get into the mod issue, as there are too many different ways to modify these cars.

Besides, the Srt4 is fAstAr haha.

The Ferrari Enzo takes a full 1.5 seconds to get to 30 mph! Slower than a Forester XT!

yah...that's the article where Car&Driver evens things up by taking away the Evos superior stock tires. They also do a number of tests (the deceleration slalom) where understeer actually is beneficial. For the track test, they decided to pick a less technical track where the STi's bigger displacement would have an advantage. Even with all these things going against it, the Evo barely loses. So, your point is?

Stock out of the box, the EVO handles better. So even though it has a little less hp than the STi, it can best the Subie on a racetrack. Do some serious work to the STi's suspension, and you got a great track car. I have seen some really fast STi's at the racetrack. There was a guy at Buttonwillow last weekend who was a great driver, and his STi was beating just about everything.

That being said, I like the EVO better, that's why I bought one. Set up like mine, it can beat that STi. I was staying with a Z06 in the straights. It's about driving skills. The STi and Z06 drivers were just more experienced and quicker in the corners.

They are both great cars. EVO wins by a nose, like Road & Track, Car & Driver and Sport Compact Car say. But it is pretty close, don't fool yourself.

with a lot more money on STI than MR, they sure do complain a lot about their tires.

what's the deal with making the rims wider, but tire size the same?
