speeding tickets....
My buddy just got a ticket in his STI today.
and wanted me to ask you all if someone has heard of sending a check to the courts for the ticket but over paying it. and when they send you the refund check for the difference in the money, not the cash the check. Just tear it up and the courts can't close out the case sorta speak, and your insurance co. wont get wind of the ticket?
I've never heard of such a thing but he's heard it several times.
any insight would be greatly appreciated.
thanx

This sounds like a Seinfeld episode I seen once. Expect, some guy wrote a check to the city of NY for the Statue of Liberty (like $1). They cashed it, so he claimed he owned it.

Thats the same thing I hear, pay 5 dollars over what you should then never cash the check. The ticket is marked as paid. I tried it, but it was an out of state ticket and I don't know if I would have gotten points either way.

Aren't checks valid for only 90 days? If that's the case, after three months the city/state/county can do whatever they want. My guess is they'll close the case and your insurance will go up. Tell your friend to take responsibility for his actions instead of just delaying things...

Best thing to do is find a lawyer that specializes is traffic tickets, they usually charge a flat fee, it might be like $300-$400, but they get the charges dropped. It’s cheaper than paying higher insurance over years. I've got one that I use and she's gotten every one of my tickets dropped.

pay the ticket and change insurance companies right away. the new insurance company wont get notified of your new ticket cuz the dept of motor vehicles will notify the insurance company(your old one) they have on file for you.
