Motor Trend - February 2003
Not much news in there that we don't already know, along with pics. Duh!
- A five-speed manual will be the only transmission choice at launch, though MMSA is evaluating the notion of offering the sequential automatic sold in other markets; with it would come a slightly detuned powerplant. A six-speed stick likely will show up in a year or two.
- Regarding the ACD/AYC: Sources tell us this expensive hardware would've pushed the cost beyond the sub-$30,000 base-price point mandated by MMSA's business case.
- We're told the new 271 HP rating is accurate, while the Evo VII's 276 number was conservative by about 25.
- Expect 0-60 times at or just below 4.9 seconds and Corvette-beating slalom runs.
- Expect to pay a couple grand for the most audacious wing choice. WTF!! They better be wrong on this one...

No, not at all. Why do you say that?
The big wing will mean an extra cost, but not that much. My guess would be about $500.

Did anyone notice the February Motor Trend RS numbers? 0-60 in 4.4? Is that from more aggressive gearing? Plus they say the RS is on sale currently in the US. Every dealer I've spoken with says they'll be here in April. What's with that?
