Before the viii badges were more regularly imported from the UK, people just bought the vii ones for the looks. They left it on the car, and the dealer, rather than trying to know anything about the car, simply read the badge and assumed that's what the car was called.
Hopefully some rube won't buy it and brag to his friends he got a vii

Either this dude put some major coin into converting his VII into an VIII, including headlights and all, or he was a cheap *ss and put a VII's badge on the rear and the dealer is too dumb to know the difference. After looking at the poor paint job on the door trims and in the engine compartment...I'm thinkin' the later of the two!
