Took me a month of B1tching but I got my 03 RR Evo for $29,500 in June of 03.

I really didn't think I could afford one, at the time anyway. BUT there was a used Blue By You with 2000 miles on it. Poor kid wanted it, paid the $45,000 price to be the 1st kid to have one, worked 3 jobs to pay for the damn thing. Brings it home and it gets vandalized and then he pays $2000 to get it repainted and then defaults on the car after he ran outa money. I come in and they try to sell me a new one. I use their logic and say that ANY car that leaves the lot is worth 20% less, so I will pay you about $26-$27,000 for the used one.

They kept calling me back for a test drive, I kept coming in only to have them push a new one on me, and I kept walking out. Their reasoning was actually NOT B.S. as they didn’t own the car, the bank owned it, yet it was on display so bait and switch was present. I kept on insisting on the used as it was cheaper, I finally got a them to Sticker.

Then I said “WHY THE HELL AM I GONA PAY STICKER!!! AFTER ALL THE BAIT AND SWITCH AND THE B.S. AND MORE THEN A MONTH PASSING BY, WHY WOULD I BUY IT FROM YOU??? I can go down the street right now and get an Evo for sticker.

Them… “$29,000 for the used Evo, $29,500 Brand new”

Sweet. My Apr kinda sucked like 5.5 BUT if I opted for the LO-Jac it would lower my APR to 3.0 and was the same in payments, good ****. Also got them to toss in my gauge kit AND locking lugs. I mean they really tried to get me to pay $20 for the locking lugs.

ok i have a story, and its fresh (only a few days old) as some of you may know i just got my EVO saturday afternoon. Its an '03 that was never sold. Car was in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and im from saint louis. So i am looking for used '03's and the more i research (i had a '01 SS not familiar with EVO's) i see that used ones can be pretty shady as far as how they have been treated. NOne the less i cant afford a '05. My buddy in Tulsa saw a couple of red new ones and assumes they are '05' but since he knows im looking he goes to see if they are 04's or something, to his suprise he see that they are '03's. They have been marked down from like 32k to 26k. He calls me up and i catch a flight to Tulsa.

So i go in this dealership salesguy is real nice, we drive the car around for a good 10 miles, i get underneath the car looking for leaks, inspect the tires for feathering, checked everything and was thoroughly convinced that it was a brand new car with nothing wrong. had 6 miles on the clock. (the other red 'o3 had 300+ miles and was ragged)

Go in and the sales manager is standing right there, and larry (my salesguy) kinda split. lol. so i say "lets talk price" and the manager, and guys im not exaggerating this ****ing went OFF. he goes "PRICE, what ABOUT THE PRICE???" , "I JUST REDUCED THE PRICE ANOTHER 500 THIS MORNING!!!!" his face turned red as did his ears. At first i thought he was just some loud voiced redneck, so whatever. We head over his office where this ********** sitss down and doesnt offer me and my friend a seat, we are basically in the doorway, i make an offer for 23k and he goes off the ****ing handle, he starts YELLING, i mean YELLING he made a scene, other sales guys came to watch, and hes going on and on about IM TAKING SUCH HUGE LOSS, 3,701 DOLLARS! IF YOU ARE THINKING 23K ITS IMPOSSIBLE. i know its ***cing impossible but you are in sales ***** you still have to speak reasonably to customers no wonder you have so many '03 cars that were unsold, anyhow to make a long story short he was so unruly, rude, almost threatening that we ****ing walked out, and as i walked out i pulled out a cashiers check for 21,000 (from the sale of my '01 SS) that was ALREADY MADE OUT to there dealership and showed it to him to make him realize that i was there to deal and not argue with his stupid ***. we went home and realized its still a great deal with factory warranty and called larry the salesguy back, first of all he apologized to us on the ***** managers behavior and said "he talks to everyone like that even his wife, hes really a nice guy" to which i said, well hes inthe wrong business you cant sell cars like that, he should be a probation officer or something. YOU guys cannot believe how much i didnt want to buy the car just because of that **********, but i watned the car for the price it was so i called larry we made a deal over the phone which the sales manager ok'd and we told him to keep the dog on his leash in his office and we dont want to see his face. Later as we finished the paperwork the finance manager came up to me and goes "i apologize about chris hes a real ****ing dick" thats word for word what the sales manager said.

if anyone wants another '03 new car hes got another one but its been ragged on with 300 test drive miles and kumho tires, but STAY clear of this *******. we are writing a letter to the owner of the dealership to explain how unruly threatiening, and violent posture this sales manager had.... sorr for the long post!

My worst experience was at a Ford dealer here in Houston. I had a 99 supercharged Mustang GT that I needed to sell. I figured it couldn't hurt to sell it as a going concern with all the mods on before I stripped it and sold it stock. I was looking for around $16K with all the mods and wanted to trade it on a 'temp' car like a Focus ZX5. I headed over to the local Ford dealer (Lone Star Ford) and pulled up in the new car lot looking around for the used car lot. As I was pulling out a salesman flagged me down and started asking me questions. I told him I was looking for a used car and he told me he could help me with that. Whatever, so we headed inside and he sat me down and asked me what I was looking for. I told him a used ZX3 or ZX5 and that I wanted to trade the Mustang in. He took the keys, disappeared for 15 minutes and then came back to take me outside. The first car he showed me was a new Escort ZX2. I looked at him like he was a ****ing retard and told him I wanted a used Focus, again. Off back inside we went and he left me sitting for 20 minutes. They didn't have a single used Focus on the lot. But, there might be one in new used inventory in the back. Off we walked, in 100 degree heat, to the back car lot with the biggest piles of **** you could imagine. The guys inside were completely unwilling to help me and we stayed in there for another 20 minutes or so while they went through incoming inventory. They had a used ZX3 coming in the next day and asked if I'd be interested in it. I just asked for my car keys back. Waited another 20 minutes or so for the keys to come back and was told they'd give me $11K for the car... I aked if they were being serious and they said yes... I told the salesman exactly what I thought of him with a few F bombs thrown in, got in the car and headed out. I was fuming. Almost 2 hours there for them to dick me around for nothing. I passed the new car showroom on the way out and slammed on the brakes, headed inside and asked to speak to the sales manager. Started a commotion in the middle of the sales floor before being dragged into one of the cubicles where I continued my tirade. He didn't even ask what they could do to make it right as he new they had lost any chance of selling me anything. I got home and was still fuming so I got on the phone to the owner and *****ed him out too .

Anyway, a few weeks later the car was stripped, aftermarket parts were sold, car was back to stock and I headed to CarMax. They gave me over $13K for the car and sold me the '02 Lancer ES the wifey drives round now. Much better experience.

Talking

Not much of a story because I went in and told them what I would do that day and I would walk if they started screwing around. But, I saw this promotional item which was a Mitsubishi magazine stand with the front cover of a mag in it that had the EVO on it and the Car of the Year award. I asked them to throw it in and they absolutely refused. They were ready to lose a sale over this thing. Well, I went back a week later to have them check a front brake that was squeeling like a stuck pig. They said that some brakes would always make noise. They had no answer when I asked why the other three were fine. They told me to drive it a while and that Mitsu doesn't warranty breaks. I told the guy that he was fucing crazy if he thought I would let this one go and that I would drive it for a week to see.

It was early in the morning before the sales people were there so on my way out I picked up the promo item I wanted and took it with me. I would have taken the big framed evo poster off the wall too if I could have gotten it loose. They waste to more hours of my time and I will have the right tools with me to remove that poster

here's a short one.

no Evo's for sale anywhere in Atlanta area new, so i went to carmax, they charged me $28,000 for a used evo with 14000 miles on it, and I bought one.

yeh, I think i was possessed or something.

Funny thing was, there was a silver STI with 8000 miles that was cheaper than the evo.

My Evo Story

From reading some of your stories I guess I might have done something right because I got my Brand New 03 Evo in march of 2004 for 27,000 Flat out the door. I even got the silver color I wanted and the Sunroof included. If there was anything, it was looking on forums for prices on the Evo's and seeing how much people got them for. I then called the dealerships and did all my transactions over the phone. I found that it's easier to discuss prices over the phone. They seem to have a system there of working in pairs and acting like their on your side while the manager is really wondering how to dick you over. But over the phone it's a 1 on 1 conversation. The key is you have to let them know from the get go, that you are phone shopping and very serious in buying the car even today. I even started by saying, "Look this whole car salesperson pitch is not going to work, just be honest, by humble and if i like the price I'll buy it from you." I managed to get 3 dealerships fighting and lowering their price, and in the end I picked the lowest price.

even better than dealing over the phone is dealing via email. you have a written record of any dealership offers that you can forward to other dealerships and let the bidding wars begin.

I was looking for a white '04 RS. I called all the dealers in SoCal. Tustin Mitsu had one in stock. The salesman seemed nice on the phone. I told him I could be there in an hour, since that's about how long it takes to drive there from my home.

I got there on time, looked at the car and test drove it, and was ready to cut a deal. We agreed on a price. Then as we were getting ready to do the paperwork, THEY SOLD THE CAR OUT FROM UNDER ME!!!! Some putz offered more money and they sold it to him. I was so PIZZED that I walked up to the buyer and told him he was a sucker and paid too much.

The sales manager, who is some burly Arab dikk, heard this and chased me out into the parking lot, waved his fists, called me names, and said "don't mess with my business!" Then he threatened to beat me up, and invited me to come back to the dealership after closing time for some fisticuffs. I did not accept his invitation, and just bought the white '04 RS from Huntington Beach Mitsu, and that deal was very easy with no hassles.

I swear every word of this is a true story.

I was killing some time one day and decided to stop an look at the new mustangs. The sales guy comes over and starts talking up the car. Also asking some BS questions like what do I do? So I tell him that I'm a pilot and he makes a funny comment...."Well if you buy one of these[mustang] you can fly on the ground." To which I point to my car (03 EVO) and say "I already do."
Dumbfounded he looks at me and says "Which car is your." I say its the Silver one. And the quote of the day is him saying...."That's not a Mustang. What is it?"
At which point I thought to myself, What a moron. So anyway he proceeds to ask me about it. "What engine?"...."How quick?" etc.
At the end of his interogation he says to me "Well you don't need to buy a Mustang then"

LOL.....I love selling a salesman on my car )

Wow, what great timing! I recently purchased a graphite STI from World Jeep in Tinton falls, NJ, and this was the ugliest transaction I or my father who is 55 years old ever had to deal with. My gf's aunt works as a supervisor or something over at this dealer, so i went in hopes of getting a good deal for being family and all. Turns out, they transfered her to a Hyundai dealership, and I was like, "Gah, I will just go down and check out evo's". I saw my cousins Boyfriend who happened to be a salesman and got excited, ran over and said hey, and told him i was gonna check out some sti's, and mentioned my gf's aunt. First of all, he asked me if I was trading in my vehicle, etc, and what I wanted for it(as it was quite modified). I said firmly, I was offered 12k as is from Mitsubishi, so if that doesn't get matched then no deal. He came back and told me, make this car stock and we will give u 6500 for it, I said I will make it stock and you give me 7500 for it. Deal, I was planned to trade in my car and put 1,000 down(I could of put down more but decided to take advantage of a supposedly low apr). He told me my best option was to lease and it would come to 386 a month for 48 months with a 14,000 buyout. Now, you fellas do the math, I trusted his advice, went home and looked over my contract. I did all the math, and it turns out, after 4 years if I decide to buy the car, it would of costed me a total of 41,700 dollars for the car. Thats including the 30k below invoice price he gave me and we agreed upon for being family. My dad was like, WTF we got dicked by our own family? We saw the interest wasnt 2.9%, but more like 5.9% which made a pretty big impact on a 30,000 dollar purchase. My father called up them on Monday(yesterday), spoke with Finance manager, and the guy said just bring everything down and we can sort everything out, my papa dukes calls me at work, tells me to go pick up the STi at home and bring that to the dealer instead of my car(as I was supposed to be trading it in yesterday). They gave me a day or two to clean out my car and make it as stock as it can be - which was nice. This is where it gets rather ugly and needs its own paragraph.

We get there last night after me working almost 11 hours and im a cranky little fu@ker at this point and im pissed b/c we were getting the runaround. I told my cousins boyfriend he was a ******** and my cousin always dates **** suckers, and told him he was a prime example. I said you take your car back and I will just keep my lancer and get an evo this weekend down the road where I can get raped and at least get a car I always wanted. the finance manager says, oh thats too bad, we already have a contract, but in NJ(someone PLEASE correct me on this here if i am wrong), you should have a 3-day grace period to cancel a contract if you wish, which I explained to the guy, but then he gave me what I believe to be total bs, and saying that doesnt work for a lease, I was like, "WTF, and I look at my cousin and say, you're telling me im stuck in this mess from a family member and you wont help me get out of it, I laughed and flipped him off" The guy explained over and over, he can cancel the lease contract only if I finance the sti or purchase another vehicle they have there. So in a nut shell, I got suckered into financing this sti, which isnt necessarily a bad thing, but for the price i am paying now, I would much rather be in an Evo b/c I got no deal whatsoever. When I redid the contract with them, he upped the price from 30,000 to 33,000 and said I was lucky to even get that b/c he doesnt discount them, I said and what about that family plan, reply was anything off an sti is considered family plan even if its 5 dollars, bs, total bs, I was so pissed off. I am stuck paying for an sti for the next 5 years, unless someone thinks legally the dealer is wrong and I am able to get out of this?

Please help me if I am right and the dealer is wrong. The finance manager also yelled at a friend of mine, who had put a rather large deposit down on an sti as well, and the guy told him to just keep his mouth shut or sit in the car. *shrug* the guy was rude and forced me and my father into financing the sti, instead of just giving it back and walking away, keep in mind, I only had the car saturday and sunday they were closed =/ I barely even drove the car! Oh well, I guess I Am screwed unless someone tells me differently.

Oh yah, I looked on the back of the dealership key chain which explains the type of car, year, and their stock number, the back of it had a sticker which had "12/9" on the back of it, meaning December 9th, that car has been sitting there for 4 months now almost. I said to the guy, i guess your STi's here sell like hotcakes, b/c the one i happened to buy says 12/9 on the back, and I worked as a lot attendant for mitsubishi for a while and I know exactly what that means. He said oh, we just didnt sell that color, I said ok, show me all of your keys from the stis outside, there was about 5 or 6 of them out there. He declined my request and I chuckled. I bet they wont put those dated stickers on their keys anymore.

There is a lot going on with your story that I can't comment on except this. IF you go into a lease planning on buying it out in the end you will almost always without exception pay WAAAAAY more then the car is worth to begin with. That's why you only compare the 48 month payment with what it would take to finance the car for 48 months and look at what you'd be saving on a MONTHLY basis. Not refinancing the residual value at the end (which I'm thinking you didn't account for) so adding up your payments and then adding the balloon/residual is still short of what you would pay, unless you have that much cash at the end. Performance cars like these usually have a lower residual value, so the monthly lease payments wouldn't be that much less then say financing it out for 60 months.

Okay, the short answer if you got lost. It is financically unsound to go into a lease agreement, planning to buy it out in the end.
