Anybody with a 3" TBE, please help!

I've heard that if you install a TBE, you will run extremely rich. Is this bad for our cars? do i need to tune/ reflash the ecu? did u do this when you installed your TBE? I need to know because im installing mine next week. thanks

They run rich from the factory so it's fine. But a tune will maximize the power that it will make.

yea i know that, but its going to run even richer than that. Do i have to reflash or its not necessary? how many of you have been running a TBE without tuning and zero problems?

You shouldn't have to, but the car could backfire/actually spit fire if it's running REALLY rich

Why would you get a 3" TBE if you aren't going to get it tuned?

The factory setting is very rich, but the exhaust itself won't make it any richer. For best performance, you need to significantly lean out the A/F ratio, otherwise you WILL backfire.

Shooting flames out the exhaust is not a backfire. Shooting flames BACKwards into the intake is. Sending flames out the exhaust is simply igniting unburnt fuel in the pipe.

I ran my 3" TBE without a tune for 2 months. It actually made a good improvement in power and slightly increased the amount of boost I was running.

It never backfired.

It is a great mod! You will love the results!

I have been running my TBE without a tune for at least 6 months. The only thing that sucks is people that follow me say they see black fumes from my tailpipe. I'm sure a tune would fix that!

What do you mean why? Horsepower of course...unless you guys like your evos slower j/k....Your car will become loud with a turbo back expecially without a cat, but there is definitly a point in getting turboback eventho you haven't tuned yet. I too have been running a TBE w/o cat for about 6 months or so and no worries. Remember, if your choice is to run too rich or lean..RUN RICH! I did my TBE in steps, catback, then dp, then cat delete. I noticed gains with each part.

Naucrx, what do you mean why? If you get a TBE even without a tune you still get power out of the system . Ams told me I'd have close to 300whp with the TBE, boost@20psi, and the buschur air filter i have. And with a tune i could squeeze the extra power, but its nto that necessary. They told me to tune it when i have more mods so that itd be really worth it, since im planning to get 272s, I/C, HKS cam gears, and hks rs intake. But anyway, i dont think it would be a problem, also 20/19 psi to redline is safe in evos right? dotn we have enough fuel? oh and im running on 93oct
