Hot Wheels Evo VIII WRC on Ebay
For my fellow diecast collectors out there...
Found this on Ebay this morning: 1/18 Evolution VIII WRC diecast!!!!
I almost fell out of my chair. Then I almost tore my pants trying to get my wallet out to buy it.
I will post up again when I receive it and give a quick review on the quality. Hot Wheels models are usually ok (their Formula One models are pretty decent) but their road car models aren't as good as AutoArt (but you don't pay AutoArt prices for them either.)
Now I have just two more Evo's on my diecast wishlist:
Silver Evo VIII 1/18 scale from AutoArt (if they decide to make silver, otherwise I'll settle for a red one pretty soon.)
AutoArt Evo VI WRC 1/18 Makinen/Mannisenmaki (Anyone got one they want to sell?)
Anyway, enjoy.

OK so the headlights look like they're from a run-of-the-mill Lancer but the engine and drivetrain sure isn't based on the lancer.
I agree it's ugly, but from an engineering standpoint (which is how I usually look at things), the car is very good and well-designed. Didn't it just finish 3rd in the most recent WRC event? That's not too bad after last year's disappointment.

FYI.
Fujimi has a 1/24 scale model of the EVO VIII GSR. Molded in red with stock Enkie wheels. JDM dash only and no engine. Nice kit with the correct lines.
ID series number 56, stock number 03548. It was released in late '03.
They also make quite a few other models of race series EVO VIIs.
Check out this site for a good selection of Fujimi cars.

Just spreading the word.

P.S. I have also sent an email directly to Fujimi HQ requesting more models of the EVOs in both 1/24th and 1/12th scales. EVO VIII, RS, and MR.
Also directed them over here to check out the site.
Maybe just maybe.
Later.

They gain all this recognition for the Evo thru the WRC and now are downgrading their car to the base lancer body.
all the evos from 1 to viii use the lancer body, buddy.

Last time I checked, the body of the Evo was the same as a base Lancer too, just different bumpers, nose and fenders, and a lot more spot welds...

I haven't found any Evo VIII model kits yet, either.

Got the Hot Wheels Evo 8 WRC model today, here are my initial thoughts:
-Great looking paint job
-Comes with a set of "studded" snow tires (since this model is supposedly from Rally Sweden. The snow tires are 1/2 the width of the dirt tires, just like in real life. They look like bicycle tires they're so thin.
-Comes with a metal "wrench" to take off the regular dirt tires with a single screw. Be careful not to strip it out when reinstalling the screw.
-Comes with the nighttime spotlight headlights. They fit into small holes in the hood. They look pretty cool on the car.
-Comes with the two skid plates (front and rear) not attached so you can see the suspension detail.
-Smooth working steering
-Good, not great, engine bay detail (but it is undoubtedly the 4G63, which therefore makes it an EVO)
-Very good interior detail (roll cage, recaros, levers, sabelts that attach to roll cage)
-Trunk doesn't open. Yes the wing is ugly but it's functional.
-The underbody of the diecast has "Mitsubishi Evo 8" stamped in it. I guess that settles that discussion.
If you're a big WRC fan, go grab one of these. $29.99 on Ebay. Maybe Toys-R-Us will start to carry them. There is also a Subaru made by Hot Wheels. Hopefully they'll start making other cars like the Focus WRC, Xsara WRC and the Peugeot and Skoda WRC cars.
