[QUOTE=Cash Money]crankwalk is an "issue" in 2g dsm's... many swap out their 2g's bolt pattern to the 1g's if i'm not mistaken... the Evo's 4G63 is the real deal... we don't have to worry about that...QUOTE]

Crankwalk is an issue with 7 bolt 1G and 2G DSM's late 92 to 99 build, worst years are probably 95-96. It is possible for any car to get crankwalk by the way, just that one particular model is not plagued like the 7 bolt DSM's.

The EVO motor is built different, no one that I know of has had crankwalk with the EVO and for the most part should not.

FYI: I had a 97 GS-T Eclipse with 80K miles, no crankwalk and when it got totalled the guy who took the trans apart for pieces said it was within factory specs as if it was new. Moral of the story take care of it and it will be like new for many miles.

I got a 91 galant VR4 (4g63 incase you didn't know) with 270.000 original kms, still going strong. First owner was an old man who covered the 230k of the total 270k though.

I'm currently at 79,900 miles on my 03 EVO on the stock clutch. I am problem free. I commute 87 miles each way to work daily. Sometimes the drive isn't long enough!

Actually, one of the vendors did a statistic on crankwalk, and it was the 96-97 with the most cases recorded. 97 won it by far though. Crankwalk isnt apparent as everyone seems to thing though. I have tons of friends with 2gs, and only that I know of that has crankwalked.

Well at least our engines will last MUCH longer then our ****ty paint. My hood is starting to look like a dart board, tons of rock chips. If only I would have invested in the invis-bra.

yep... that's what i've read... 2 out of my 5 friends with DSM's had crankwalk... the 3 that didn't have it clubbed the hell outta their cars, and the 2 that didn't beat their cars had it, and they were both 97's... strange... but yes, it's possible for any car to experience crankwalk, but, it's just more prevelant in the 2g's it seems... i know a couple of ppl that had 1g's, and none ever said they experienced it... if they lied, i couldn't tell you...

From everything I've read as long as you keep up on your maintenance especially oil changes and drive responsibly your 4G should last a long time.

excuse my ignorance... but what is crankwalk? I would guess it's the movemtn of the engine when the clutch is engaged and force is transfered to the wheels. I know I'm a newb, so don't bother restating that...

my guess is that they will last a pretty long time, especially if taken care of properly.

I believe it's when the clutch is in and the crank actually moves forward or backward in the block. The same thing as end play. Probably from a problem with the thrust bearing.

I don't baby my evo like some people but I still take extreamly good care of it just like anthing else I own. It's an awesome car that was built to be driven everyday.

if you don't beat on it everyday it "should" last at least 100k miles until something catastrophic happens, lol.

1) Drive it like it's meant to be driven
2) Change the oil and filter every 3000 miles
3) Don't crank up the boost and melt stuff by running it lean
4) Change the oil and filter every 3000 Miles
5) Use only what the manual says to use in the TC, trans, and LSD
6) Change the oil and filter every 3000 miles
7) Find a good dealer in your area - don't spend a dime with the bad ones
8) Change the oil and filter every 3000 miles
