Suggestion on gear oils?

Ok i got a fresh TC ready to be installed in place of my whining, howling, weird noise making TC. Its been howling since like jan-feb-04. anywyas, it ws running stock gear oils at the time, i changed it with redline heavy shockproof 75w90 about 4 months ago. I dont like redline. just hearing bad things about it and etc... well if anyoen else has opinions on what oil i should use for the TC would help!

BTW: if i separate the TC from tranny, will tranny fluid pour out cuz i heard tranny fluid is fed into the TC through a certain area. i plan to drain my TC before i take it off.

Very important: where to purchase the gear oil ur suggesting would help, thanks!

I recently did a search and everyone seems to have their own opinion on whats good for their car. AMS put in redline in my tc and I trust them but this has no solved my issues with the whining and howling noises. Maybe you should do a search and go with what you think will work best. You could always flush it and change to a different oil anyways.

BTW: your so lucky to have a spare tc. Im wondering if my ring and pinion gear set is fucted and creating the noises I am experiencing..

Man I just use the OEM Diaqueen SAE90w or whatever it is in the TC. It seems to kind of break down after a while but I'm now changing it around every 5000-7000 miles. I think TME or TRE (whatever they are called) recommends this.

As long as u don't mind the smell it's fairly easy to change. You dont even really need a pump if the oil is warm when putting it in. If you to decide to go with the oem stuff there are a few places online u can order it from. I think even lancershop.com has it now.

It's 5qt for 50.. the transfer takes like .58qt I believe.. so you could change it almost 10 times

Use only Diaqueen LSD Gearoil unless you want to buy another transfer case, simple as that.

lancershop sells a jug of OEM fluid. is that jug enough to change the fluid in my transfer case? is there any other fluid besides in the tc that i should replace to try and get rid of the whining?

That jug from lancershop is plenty to change the transfer and rear diff many many times. It's 5quarts and the rear diff and transfer together take around a quart.

I think you can go wrong with redline.. ask around
