911 owner- Convince me to buy an Evo8
I'm a 911 owner. Convince me to an Evo.
1999, 911 Carrera 2 owner here. It's been serving me as my only car which I only use on weekends. Live in NYC, use subway to work. For a while I've been eyeing on an Evo as a replacement.
Key factors I like on evo-
Performance
AWD (when it snows)
Trunk
Rear passenger space
Econobox stealth looks (when dewinged, which I intend- lets me park wherever, go to poor neighborhoods unnoticed)
Cons-
Need winter tires (when it snows, which I have no storage space living in NYC, may have to go all seasons)
Econobox looks / Chick appeal (definitely not as beautiful)
Suspension/Ride? (read it is rough, any evo owners driven a 911? I'm not sure until I try it. NYC potholes can be rough)
Depreciation (a New evo is definitely going to depreciate a whole lot more than my 99 C2, which I bought used last year, may consider buying a used Evo to fight depreciation)
Evo owners, convince me why I should get rid of the 911.

It's a much different animal, but that's pretty obvious. Get a good set of all seasons for like $500 around, and you'll be fine. I run all-seasons only right now.
It still draws attention, albeit probably less that the 911. However, 911's are probably much more common in NYC that in the midwest.

Well, I had an 02 996TT and I can tell you that I do not regret any moments spent with my EVO.
For you it will be easier since the C2 does not have the same performance as the EVO (if you know how to drive it), but you need to invest some money on the EVO (2k-4k will do it).
If you consider the chick factor than it is a no brainer Porsche rules, but if you love driving fast in the corners, all wheel drive drifting and fast launches (in other words if you are a street fighter) than EVO rules!!!
Test drive one and ask anybody on this forum a ride in their car (I will give you one) and you will understand what I am saying.

Well depends on what you want. I know that i dont have any problems walking all over 911's in a drag race. Ok then we go to AutoX hmm walk all over them agian. I guess your right about the chick magnet though. The 911 does attract woman but the EVO does the same. Now if you had a GT3 things might be different but there would be no question in my mind. Go drive one and we will see you with one soon as you leave

I replaced my 993 C4 with the Evo. I have owned 2 other Porsches in addition and driven countless others.
Although I reminisce about my 993, I have no regrets. My Porsche was a beautiful car and had all the correct engine and suspension modifications. I could drive it to the track, abuse it all day, and then drive it home.
However I love my Evo. It is faster in a straight line than my 993 was and it is more suited to my lifestyle as it has 4 doors. It acquits itself nicely around the track and on some tracks is even faster than the 993. It is fun to drive, communicates nicely -- especially for a 4wd car.
One of the primary things I enjoy with the Evo over the 993 is the ability to mod. When I sense that I am getting bored with the Evo I add some parts and renew my interest. The modifications you can buy are relatively cost effect and seem to have a pronounced effect on performance. With the Porsche it would break the bank even thinking about mods.
If you can get past the image change from the 911 to the Evo then you will be happy.
Good luck,

A stock 996 is no match for my modded EVO, for 1/2 the price. The more you drive the EVO the more you love it. I have driven about 15 racetrack days in the 4 months I have had the car. It is built like a tank and nothing ever breaks.
Plus you get full back seat, 4 doors and a real trunk.
All that being said, I have never owned a 911 but would love to. A nice 997 S costs near $90,000 and I can't afford that.
If you buy an EVO, I don't think you will be unhappy. I'd probably go with the MR, since I assume you can afford it at about $35,000. It looks great in Graphite Grey.
Your old Porsche pals will look down their noses at you, until your turbo scrolls up and you leave them wondering "WTF?"
