I am wondering this same thing. Would I need gears to go with the 272's, or would the idle be decent once the ECU is reflashed?

I'm not looking to install the gears to squeez that extra 5.6HP out of the car. If 272's are installed 0 0 will the car run fine? Also how is the durability of the engine affected? Since there is a post by revolver stating they come into contact with the vavle train it's got me a little worried.

1 Other thing I have read that 264 vs 272 vs 280 what your doing is moving the power band farther up in the RPM range.... I am not looking to rev 900,000RPM LOL But I do plan to upgrade my turbo nothing crazy but something bigger. I'm not really looking for power over 8K But I am looking for more power from 5-7K something the evo's stock cams just don't want to flow.

Bump.... Also this might sound gay but... Would a lopey idel feel like my idel in my 2G DSM with poly motor mounts? Does it get worse with the ac on and does it vibrate the whole car? Or is it more like an idle with fouled spark plugs? I hate the poly mounts.... My car was nick named the "Vibrator" LOL

I read thru the thread (most of it) and I don't see anyone mentioning anything about new springs and retianers when changing your cams. I don't know the topic well but I think I've read in other threads that when doing a cam swap with anything greater than a 264 cams, since this is a "mild" upgrade over stock, you should change these. Is this true?
I would be interested in hearing peoples opinions that have new cams but kept stock springs and retianers. Has anyone put a lot of miles since their cam swap that could let us know how things have gone?

Ummm is there an Echo? If your reffering to me not getting gears becuase of the 5.6hp and then the revolver valvetrain contact issue... That has nothing to do with the cam gears it has to do with the lift of the cam. Also other vendors have stated they do not contact because of oil pressure and the springs in the working condition of the engine are not as high as they appear while the engine is not working due to oil pressure and some other really crazy ****. LOL
I would think if there was contact under operating conditions there would be severe damage done since they do spin up to 7.5Krpm.... at times. Buschur states they do not touch and Revolver does.... So who knows? To me they both know their ****! So I do not know who is correct?
