To Cam or not to Cam!?!?

I am in the should I get cams or should I not get cams boat? I'm lookin for some more power out of the evo now. I could go cams but I am really reluctant to touch the internals.... I never did on my 2G eclipse and it was fast as hell... Just did everything else turbo big 16G, FMIC, pump, injectors, so on and so on. I'm really thinking about saving up and getting a bigger turbo or atleast waiting for the buschur 20G. My goal is 400WHP on pump gas (93) What would you all suggest? I am between 20G, Alky, or Cams.... But not really sure if I want to go internal....

Current: Walbro255, EBC, Flash, 3" turbo back no cat, Cone filter, AFC if I ever need it.

i say get the injectors, and fmic, alky, wait on the 20g or other bigger turbo...
tune it all up and decide if you are happy with that.
if not, then do cams.

Cams if you dont mind the extra depreciation of fuel economy. I have 272s for sale. I'll let it go for 400 shipped. If you can find a better deal and prove it to me, i'll beat it! It's about 2000 miles used.

I don't really want to touch the internals.... I'd rather do "bolt ons" I am really thinking about the 20G or Alky. Maybe both. But If I can get to 400WHP on straight 93 octane that's my goal. I have been doing research on turbos and can't find the winner yet.

I think you sould reallly do the cams. I know the intake side of the evo is very restrictive - you need to let her breathe.

You do the turbo to be safe you will need to do internals anyway. Headstuds and rod bolts are a very recommended thing... And a clutch eventually to hold better. But you will def. want cams. It is internal but not a huge thing. I need to get a set when taxes come in. It is one of the largest gains for small money. People see gains between 20-30 awhp and .1-.2 off the quarter. Plus 272's def. make up on the highway disadvantage of the evo's awd.

Yah you are right.... Most evos with mods have cams... I didn't really want to do cams but I think it is a must. I will probably go 264/264.

I have heard many people say the little extra power isn't worth some of the other issues.... Can anyone confirm this?

i stall very seldom. i dont have cam gears. i think you will like the 272's better gives you more power top end ( where the evo is weak)

damn man, Masterevo's got a good deal on those 272's...but definitly get cams. A bigger turbo is nice, but think about reliability issues...do you really want all your power coming from boost? that's the easy way out, but probably not the best. Build your motor some, you'll appreciate it when you DO have more boost.
