brake pads
When should i start worrying about getting new pads for my Evo? I'm at 14.5k miles and the car has not seen a hard day in it's life... yet
I'm in cleveland and the cold weather has produced some squeeling and grinding noises before it's warmed up.
Thanks
Helm

Check the pads, that's it, it all depends on how you drive, and your best bet is to just check how much pad is left... definitly don't take it to a mitsu dealership though, they'll tell you the pads are almost gone even if there's like half pad left (they did to me)

I'm going in for an oil change this saturday. 3500 miles ago they said my brake pads were in great shape. I just wondered what the average life of the stock pads are with daily driver use.

It would depend on how you brake daily driving, I know I use the brakes, but I've tracked the car and auto-xed and my stock rears are just fine at 14.5k, and my fronts were bad right after the track event at ~10k, but those are with hard braking... But how bout a bump for someone who can answer it a little better!

When it comes to brakes it's not how many miles are on the car is the way the car has been driven and what kind of terrain it's driven on regularly. A guy who lives in the canyon and drives in the hills a lot is going to wear them out qucker than a guy who drive on the highway a lot.

21K here in Cleveland also. Spirited driving 40 miles per day, combo of freeway and downtown. Original pads and rotors and I expect them to last another 10K at least from the looks of the pad wear. IMHO key to winter driving (and after a car wash when the car sits for that matter) and keeping the pads in decent order is light driving the first couple of stops to get rid of the oxidation and other gunk. I can't remember another car that I've had that had rotors oxidize so quickly in winter between uses (12 hours!).
