where to mount an amplifier on an evo
i got a cadence 500 watt amplifier, and a couple CDT Speakers to replace my sucky stock speakers on my MR. stock speakers suck alot for a 38k car.
i was just surprised that the speakers alone almost weighed 6+ lbs, (maybe even more), and the amp weighed maybe another 8 - 10 lbs. that would be alot of weight added to an MR, having in mind the weight reductions such as the aluminum roof and the BBS lightweight rims.
anyhow i got it already, and i will also be installing a pioneer HU on it.
my question is, where should be the best place to mount the amp. given the fact that the evo is a rally car, and i like to take sharp turns alot, i dont want it to be moving around even just a bit.
there are two places i am thinking of, either under the passenger seat (that will be mounted under the seat to the seat, not mounted on the floor under the seat), advantages will be a lower center of gravity, and give more space for other stuff, and easier installation, and cleaner look. or should i mount the amp to the trunk (either on the trunk floor or mount of the rear of the rear seats on the trunk, however, it is declined and may tend to fall), which will however be harder to install, and remove more trunk space (i want my trunk to be clean). the amp looks really nice tho, i would give it a 9 out of 10.
i dont look forward to be adding subs in the future (it will add weight and possibility of moving around).
i am still leaning forward on putting the amp under the passenger seat, but i would like the amp at least to be seen, because of the nice looks, it looks really nice. or maybe you guys can suggest to me a better place to mount it.
btw, i got a cadence amp, and CDT Speakers. amplifier is about 18 inches by 12 inches and height is about 2.5 inches.

Don't just take my word for it, but I used to be a manager at a Circuit City Roadshop (Car audio and alarms). If you drive the car in winter and/or rain (which I would expect you do) Just remember that there is a higher possibility of getting the amp wet from water/snow coming off shoes/boots under the seat.
Water and Amps don't mix. I would bolt it down in the trunk, just watch out where you drill.
Just my $.02

very very much true... never taught of that... makes me think of the trunk once again...

Yeah, mount it in the truck using a well finished piece of plywood as a mounting board. It's not much more effort to run the wires to the trunk than it is to run them to the seat. Having said that, I do have my crossovers mounted under the seat with no issues but they're pretty small compared to an amp.

I put mine under the seats. Fits great, hidden and dosn't take up boot space. I think you will have no problems with water, you would have to have pretty inconsiderate passengers for there to be a danger of water from their shoes breaking anything.

Dont mount it under the seat, had many problems with amps overheating by not having enough ventilation, I would probably just mount to the back of the seat ( the rear seat). That way its easy to adjust when needed and problems always arrise when having a stereo so your going to need it in a place where its easy to access and fix/adjust something.

It depends how much you are pushing your amps. If you are cranking the amps 100% then under the seats might not be a good idea, but then if you are pushing your amps that hard then you probably should get a bigger amp. I am running a single 12 and some components up front, from two amps one under each seat. Both amps are set at about 60-75% gain, and they are perfect, no problems. Neither amp really breaks a sweat, it works great, and they are out of the way.
If you install the system properly the amps are the last things you should have to touch. Unless you change speakers or get more subs or whatever, amps should be a set and forget part of your stereo system.

I know what youre going through. I'm looking at putting in my amp and upgrading speakers. The speakers arent a problem, but the amp is. I have a Directed 4500 (nearly 24"). I dont know how your trunk looks, but in mine, just forward of the rear strut brace and behind the seat there is an oval section. We've talked about flushing it in with that area. It gives an area to hide wires and allows the amp to be more apart of the car. Like I tell all my buddies, its up to you and what you feel looks best for what you want to accomplish. I dont know what your amp looks like, but if it looks as good as you say, show it off.
