Stock Launch

I plan on buying an 05 Evo pretty soon and was just wondering what you guys have experienced to be the best rpm to hold on for a launch in a stock evo. Sure I'll eventually figure it out my self but its always better to know what the whole group thinks too. Plus I don't feel like looking like an idiot the first time I do it or wasting time on my clutch and tires when someone could just tell me.

FLAME ON!

Definitely do a search. I don't launch mine at all. I am at 24K on the stock clutch as well. There are different techniques people will tell you to use.

Use the slip method. About 3.5k rpm and slip it.

Well the MR comes with "launch control" which limits the RPMs to 5000, so that tells you what Mitsu thinks...

I don't think it's exactly launch control... it's more of RPM limiter.

Launching won't wear out the tires too bad. Be prepared to buy a new clutch if you start racing it regularly tho. I prefer the slip method to the drop method, but that's just me. I have no idea which one is faster.

Dont drop. That could really hurt the car. It's AWD, so slip it. Even at 3.5 K, if you do it right, it will haul. The first time you do it right, it will REALLY surprise you.

Smile dont drop it!!!!!!

if you plan on dropping the clutch, you might want to keep your broom in the trunk so you can sweep up your mess at the light, as to not hinder traffic. my stock clutch went out at 5K miles, my exedy twin metallic lasted 20K, now i have the triple Exedy carbon, no probs yet. i read to rev to 4500-5000, let the clutch out to where the sweet spot is (starts to grab) then slip the clutch a bit, while mashing on the gas, the key to an AWD car is to get the components "loaded", when the car moves 3 feet or so, the drive-line is loaded, then you take your foot off the clutch and smash the gas to the floor. make sure you dont smell too much burning in the car, your starting to glaze the disc, which means the clutch will continue to slip.

Very true. Here are vids of me launching at 2500 and 5500 RPMs. I got to 60 and 80 in virtually the same amount of time both ways.

Higher RPM launch with 1.7 60' time:

Is it just me or does it seem like you're shifting pretty high rpm for first?
