One more thing...

In UK, the EVO 7 msrp was over £25k which, based on my simple calculations, will convert to over $40k US.

You get what you pay for. For $30k I think the US EVO is a bargain.

Do a little research before you post please!! Unlike the US, the UK auto has takes that add up to something like 25-40pct of the vehicles original cost. Taking that into account, their actual price (minus taxes) is roughly the same as, if not lower, than the US MSRP.

Arg, sorry. Still bitterly disappointed with

Car prices generally in the US are a lot lower than the UK, usually $1 = £1

It might help to know that Evo 7s were going for the equivalent of about $50,000 in the UK from a Mitsubishi dealer.

Prices for the Evo 8 in the UK are expected to be around $47,000 for a GSR (AYC, ACD, ABS etc) and $42,000 for a RS

In the UK $30,000 would get you into a 2 year old Evo 6.

Tax on cars in the uk is 10% duty and 17.5% VAT

typical drivetrain loss for AWD is more like %30 - %35... so my guess is EVO will put 210 - 220hp to the gorund... 300hp or so at the flywheel...

30-35%?! I don't think so. The awd system in the Evo isn't THAT inefficient. Where do you get those #'s? Do you have any dyno experience?

$44,000 gets you a evo8 GSR in the UK I've ordered the FQ300 and I'm paying $46,000 after a discount . If you want to really wind yourselves up the think about the Japanese spec car costs 3,300000 ($28,000)

30-35% is horrendous! Maybe if the motor and the drivetrain was made in the U.S.

Remember this is a high tech machine used in World Championship rally races. 25% drivetrain loss is a more realistic figure for an AWD.

271 Flywheel Horsepower = 271 / 1.25

216 Wheel Horsepower @ Sea Level @ 60 degrees F with a High pressure weather system in the area, and 40 psi in all tires.

Bottom line : Horsepower figures are going to have so many different variables. Stop whining about a few horsepower. EVERYDAY the horsepower output will change a few horsepower here and there because of weather factors and just because you travel up a hill. Run into some cloudy low pressure weather, there goes three or four more horses.

I don't know what specs are most accurate but as far as that guy in the article goes I think he's full of it. claims 0-60 in 4.8sec and Motor Trend tested a Euro Spec Evo VII and got a 0-60 in 4.3sec. 4.8 - 5.0 seems like realistic expectation for the U.S. spec Evo VIII if what I found holds any water.

btw here's Motor Trends test of the VII. http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...ion/index.html

I thought the AutoZine article was flawed also, so I guess the whole "next US EVO" thing may be hot air as well.

As far as 0-60, Claudius just said the 7 does 0 - 62 in 5.3 sec. Now the "1st gen US EVO" has slightly less HP and less TQ and weighs more. Based on those differences and the 5.3 seconds by the 7, it just doesn't seem like it would get less than 5 seconds 0 - 60. The numbers just don't support the under 5 seconds claim. Of course, it remains to be seen, so maybe it will happen.

In any case, it doesn't matter if it goes 0 - 60 in under 5 seconds, 10 seconds, or 2 seconds, cuz I won't be able to get one anytime soon. Just bought a house, so I'll probably have to wait for the "2nd gen US EVO." But maybe this means I can get my Yamaha R6.

Liandrin11:

If I get the R6, then we'll have the same vehicles... I also have a Prelude SH, 1998.

Does anyone know if there is a difference in efficiency between the drivetrain with the active controls(EVOVII), and the drivetrain with the mechanical diffs(USEVOVIII and EVOVII rs?)?

Is there a chance that the drivetrain that will be on our US Evo's, (since it has fewer moving parts than the ayc/acd system), will be more efficient...and have less hp loss through the drivetrain?
