Why is my new 05 throwing codes?

Picked up my 2005 EB Evo last night...ended up putting on around 120 miles just last night.

Around 80 miles into the trip (about 125 on the clock) the SES light came on. I got it checked at Autozone today and it's because catalyst efficiency is below threshold for bank 1 (P420).

I had the code erased and I guess I'll take it back to the dealer if it comes on again...

I already miss the trouble free nature of my Honda...and I've only had the freaking Evo for one day

I wouldn't have let anyone other than the dealer touch it. That sucks dude but I definitely would have just taken it to the dealer since you only had it for a day.

It's throwing codes because Mitsubishi sucks and aftermarket parts will always improve upon their brainlessness. I bought the Evo because it is such a tuner car. It responds well to tinkering and changing parts. The ECU is just another part with all the right ideas in place for monitoring performance, but poor execution for the routine daily driving functions. Some of the tolerances are way too tight, etc. I also throw that code along with my P0300. My car idled like crap since stock so I just put cams, BOV, intake, etc and it certainly didn't get any worse. Stuff like that.

haha, good reasoning. I was hoping Mitsu didn't suck THAT much...oh well...I'll just have to lay into the boost and try to forget about it

This code comes up sometimes , if the gas cap is not on or not on tightly. Something to check.

I make sure to click the cap 3 times and still get the code. Maybe my O2 sensors are bad. That makes sense since I have a whopping 9300 miles on the car.

really...good to know...I was wondering if I had tightened the gas cap after I filled up yesterday.

I've tightened the cap and erased the code, let's see if it returns.

I bought it brand new with 45 miles on it. I know it's not a bad code, but any code on a brand new car is bad.

ya. your cat or your sensor is bad or the ECU needed to be reset. Drive it for few miles and see if the code shows up. Imagin if someone dumbed leaded gas in your car when it was new . That will kill your cat.

Good luck
