Share some words of wisdom when selling an EVO
Due to financial problems I'm being forced to sell my '03 Evo VIII. Haven't started the whole DREADED process yet. Newspaper ad, Autotrader.com, put the car out on a corner w/ For Sale sign, advertise here on Evom? For those of you have bought or sold a car of this specialization (especially an Evo)...any tips or things to avoid? LY w/ CF wing, Sunroof, 6100 mi, bone stock, spotless top/bottom, you know. Oh yeah, was going to ask $26K. Live in eastern Iowa. Fire away!

Spend the money to sell it quick. Autotrader, Ebay, Local Newspaper, Sign, Internet, etc. Stress the fact that your car has not been molested and that you are an adult (if you are)

Well, I checked out Autotrader.com real quick. All 12-15 Evos listed seem to be from DEALERS, not private sellers. Is that just a freak occurance? Or is Autotrader.com more for dealers than private sellers? Anyone have car messed with while sitting out? Should I expect teenagers calling wanting to test drive? I appreciate your feedback, looking forward to some success stories. I hear $25K...and yep, I'm an old guy.

Yea I would like to know some more about selling our evo's. Like as far as test drives go, do you let people test drive your car? I mean there could be people out there that just wants to drive your car with no intentions of buying. Also, what about payment? Bank Cashier check is best I assume?

i guess im in the opposite boat as u, ive been searching around for a used evo and many private dealers arnt willing to give me a test drive since im a teenager, even though i probably have more experience with awd sports cars than they do. cant blame them though, the stereotypes are out there for a reason.
but it also hurts for the seller when the potential buyer cant drive the used vehicle, i mean cmon people sell them for a reason and even if their intentions are good the evo is a sports car and meant to be driven fast. theres just things you have to experience and feel in person to know that your making the right decision.

Depends on the potential buyer.
You should be able to get a feeling if the person is really interested or not. Also, you could always tell them you don't let anyone drive your car, but you'd be more than happy to give them a ride in it.
ask them some questions like what they do for a living, that may tip you off if they can afford the car.
Oh, and they don't always have to be kids to be out for just joyrides. But personally, I usually go to a dealer for those...

Most of the time you can tell if a teen ( cant sterotype cause I am one) just wants to waste your time or if hes serious. If he comes with his parents, most of the time it means business, if he comes with his boys in a hoopty, probably going to waste your time. I was suprised when I went to look at my evo, the dealer asked me If I wanted to drive it, I actually didnt want to because I wasnt great at stick at the time, he talked me into it, and told me certain roads to go down to get the feel of the car. Evo is the kind of car that sellls itself, if your looking at it with the intention to buy it, after you drive it its going home with you.
