Cutouts in our Evolution seat backs are for FOUR point harnesses.
Five point would require a hole in the seat bottom cushion (ala the BMW e36 M3 seats). We don't appear to have that.
Four point (my former 2000 328i)
Five point (my current 1995 M3)

Yes, you do need a hole. Sending it around the front is NO GOOD.
For an anti-sub belt to work properly it has to be located close to the driver's crotch. If the anti-submarine strap is not very very close to your body, it is very ineffective.
Sending it over the front of the seat cushion will still allow your body to slide down and/or the belts to ride up in a collision.
Either you should be prepared to cut a hole in your stock seat, or you should use a four point harness. Mounting the anti-sub strap over the front of the seat reduces the effectiveness to the point that its pretty much just for show...

LoL... that's right.
Just picture it. The strap between your legs is four inches away from your body (or how ever far the front of the seat is from your crotch when you're pushed all the way back in the seat). Big frontal impact and your body heads down four inches towards the floorboards... you're singing soprano for the rest of your life...
