Rear clunking noise after brake change?
#17
Was there any resolution to this? My Hawk HPS do the exact same thing ... I have about 1000 miles on them and no change. I'm having the dealer give them the once over tomorrow just in case.

Hi guys, sorry to bring up an old topic
is there a solution to this - same problem here
Tried two sets of pads (different brands)
1st set - Tried using the shim which came with the pads + the OEM half-shim on top
2nd set of pads I tried (elig) didnt come with shims, so I simply used the OEM half shim by itself and still same problem
Been happening for a couple days

I had the same problem after I recently did a full brake job. I couldn't for the life of me figure out what was going on.
What happens: the first time braking after switching from reverse to drive there would be a clunk in the front left wheel. The same would happen after the first time braking switching from drive to reverse.
What I thought it was: Brake pads were the wrong size and were sliding around. But that didn't make much sense to me the way the pads are held in there.
I started poking around and here's what my solution was:
The bolts that hold the caliper bracket to the frame were not torqued high enough, so the small amount of play the hole in the frame has on the bolt was causing the caliper bracket, and thus the entire braking assembly, to shift.
After about 3 weeks of these symptoms and discovering the problem, I found that all of that shifting back and forth caused a major strip in the caliper bracket and the bolt would not even hold more than 10 ftlbs. of torque when the rating for my vehicle is well over 75 ftlbs.
If you are experiencing this problem, check the caliper bracket bolts. =D Replacing the part and retorquing completely solved my problem.
