$$$ Talks...evo8 Deposits, And Age
#18
I'm 32 and rather than jump on the 1st shipments I'm biding my time. I've learned to wait after the first model run to jump on ship. Sure it's nice to have one of the first in the area, but I have a funny feeling this car is going to take off like the Subaru. When I do get mine..It'll be a blue A00 which is the high wing and no sunroof. In my mind the wing is the statement that makes the car fit in to the WRC class and it's not like it's a vehicle that people will drool over. We're talking Mitsubishi not Ferrari. Many people could car less. Also, if I want the sun roll down the windows. My point is the car is a street version road race vehicle and the last thing I want is a hole in the roof. How many times have you accidentally left the roof cracked open cause of the heat only to have it storm outside. Ugh!
Hats off to you ladies,in case there are any, and gentlemen for getting in on the show early! Enjoy.

I'm 30 and I'm waiting until next year for the following reasons:
- I want to avoid the price gouging by dealers and the wait lists
- I don't need the latest greatest thing this instant
- I will be able to save up an even larger down payment
- First year models usually have problems they need to fix
- I want to test drive the Evo and the STi
- Many magazine reviews will be occurring this year
- Ralliart and many aftermarket parts will come to market so I will know my options when I get my car
- Mitsubishi may upgrade the 2nd year Evo in ways I will like

I like your list, although probably the soonest I would consider buying an EVO would be after the STi is released and I can check it out too... but waiting until the second year of release is a good idea and it reminds me of the changes they made from a 90 to the 91 up DSMs.

I guess you are not worried about the waranty?

I'll go with an EFI single nozzle kit... unless I have to open up the engine (to reinforce the con rods & etc) to get to 350HP anyways, in which case I'll go with a direct port system and crank it up to 100 or 150 HP.
And no... I'm not worried about warranty. If this were a new engine, I'd be worried. We're buying a drivetrain that's been around in heavy use for a number of years.

So I take that you will be trying to get the most out of the stock turbo since you are going the N20 route?

I'm 27......I have a Yellow, big wing, no sunroof model allocated to me. I chose the car I did, because that is what I like. Since the Evo 1, the car has always had a big wing and no sunroof. And thats the way I think an Evo should be.
My car will remain 100% stock, apart from a set of Evo VII wheels for track events, and a set of Evo VII tail lights, if the stock jeweled ones annoy me...
SC~who hopes that the people who have complained about the Evo's weight and "lack of performance" aren't the same people who will be adding on useless heavy bodykits, and stereo systems when they get their Evo

I'm hoping to get close to my goals without opening the engine and without changing the turbo itself. Focusing on electronics, intake and exhaust work (new turbo piping, including removing most of the cats, going to a single high-flow cat, etc). Maybe a step-up intercooler, but we'll have to see how efficient the stock intercooler is. Next-to-last resort is opening the engine to strengthen the top end... last resort is doing that plus swapping the turbo.

I don't see why you couldn't get near 350 hp out the EVO with the following mods:
Intake
Turbo Back Exhaust (down pipe/no cat-high flowcat/cat-back)
Intercooler Piping (maybe even BOV)
Boost Controller
I would call this mod list BPU.
I guess the final determinant would be how high you cranked up the boost over stock and whether or not you used race gas.
