Its definitely an ongoing debate that may be beat to death but this study says:

"In case it isn't obvious yet, this means that the most wear occurs in the first 3,000 miles."

So you can actaully cause more engine wear by changing every 3k!

This study isint finished yet. They plan on doing a bunch of different oils.

your cylinder gaskets gotta be sealed completely.

I think that's the new theory.

you cause more damage in long term because your headgasket and cylinder craps gotta be burnt out.

that's why some people recommend it running the hell out of it the first 1000 miles.

I've never did mine like that, my cars been fine.

it's certain models of car as well, with special oil additive. All manufacturers use different solutions in oil to help break in the engine.

my 2 cent

The reason is not the oil, its the oil filter, the oil can be reused, but nobody does it.

You gotta be kidding. Mitus offers free maintenance service, but they do it at the wrong interval (5000 miles instead of 3000 miles) and will void your warranty if you don't to extra regular maintenance on top of the free maintenance? Unbelievable.

I hope that sent you out the door laughing!

I dunno about the '03, '04 service manual, but my '05 came with one that has 5000 mi oil change intervals and 3750 mi intervals for "servere duty" Look in yours its problably the same. If it is show them this.

your dealership is full of it, u need to change your oil every 5000mi and every 3750mi under sever driving condition, and that s what i do get a oil cange every 3500-3700, and use the free oil change every 5000mi.
