DIY Exhaust Install

Hi guys,
I was wondering for all the people who installed their own exhaust. How did you guys do it as far as getting the car high enough. I mean does everybody really have a lift? Or is there some tricks that people have for getting the car high enough. If so plz share. Thanks.

put er up on jackstands... took like an hour... easy install since the factory is under the axle. taking off the old one takes like 15 minutes tops, just drop it down in one peice

If you take it off in pieces, I wish you luck on getting the bolts off.

jack stands will work. the best advice i can give you is to spray some wd-40 on the oem bolts and let sit for 30 minutes before you start. mine were a ***** to get off. whole project took about 2 hours for me but i was being super careful.

Thanks. But are jack stands really high enough. Im worried I wont be able to torque the bolts off. Because of the car still being close to the ground and me being squeezed right underneath the exhaust.

well, they are high enough, but you wont be comfortable. like i said, spray some wd-40 on and you should have a better time at it than i did. also, a friend to help you out is recommended.

it should b high enough get some break loose worst case but liek they are saying if you undo the hangers and do it all in like one peice should b cake only problem i had was thier is a hanger in the back right behind the passenger side rear tire and its kinda a PITA to get to but when changing my brakes found out u could take off the tire really fast and get to it EASY...

its really simple just bolts make sure you check for leaks after u put the new one on

^^yeah what twinevo said., it will be high enough to get under your car but expect to get full of that tar-like undercoating that comes on the car. and definitly take our advice in putting wd-40 on the bolts, it works wonders. Oh, and it helps to have a friend handy to bring you tools, grab old piping/give you new piping, etc. makes the job go waay faster. good luck!

thanks everybody. I think I might attempt this install myself. I would love to save the money and do it myself. Also will I be able to replace the downpipe by myself if the car is up on jacks? I want to do that also but if its too much of a hassle I might just hold off. Thanks

A breaker bar and 6-point sockets will be your friend. Be careful when trying to crack nuts/bolts loose w/ 12-point sockets. You don't want to end up rounding off bolt heads. WD40 on the bolts will help too.

i just used a big floor jack and some heavy duty jack stands. got the car plenty high. took about a half hour or a little more. having a compressor and impact guns really help out. some of those bolts can be a *****. good luck.

ahhh compressor and air tools....gotta love them
make the job that much easier

or you could buy ramps and drive it up on the ramps but thats if youre only doing a downpipe and testpipe/cat or just the cat-back

I used jack stands to hold up the rear end. The hardest part was getting the old nuts off.
