Hmm....there seems to be a cloverleaf on the intake cam gear.... Interesting....

How is it controlled through that piece over the cam gear?

Where did ya find that picture? Is there a bigger version of it?

I suspected the cloverleaf too, but why doesnt the exhaust cam have the leaf on it?

Isn't that what Mivec refers to....except on the Evo it will only be on the Intake side?

More than likely a control wire is is on the backside of that control box and runs along the head to the engine wiring harness.

I suspected the cloverleaf too, but why doesnt the exhaust cam have the leaf on it?
The exhaust cam doesn't have it because there is no variable cam timing on the exhaust cam.

FWIW most cars only have it on the intake side....

I was just wondering because I got the impression that I must be stupid or something when you welcomed me to the 21st century......well maybe you were just refering to the changes in the 4g63.
