I just wanted to add that the Father of the car driver - his name was Bill - was acting in a very abusive manner, using profane and abusive langauge and making threats towards some people who were seated in the stands. Although he was most likely very upset at the time, IMHO there is no excuse for someone who conducts himself in such a manner in a public venue in front of women and children. Basically, he had to be physically walked out of the spectator area becuase he was being so abusive to the race fans.
Just wanted to add this for what its worth.
Sorry to hear his car burned - but - IMHO - anyone using NITROUS and a plastic fuel cell should not be suprized if a fire starts. To hear that he is now trying to blame this on the track is really regretable.
This is like people who break their leg sking - hire a slimey lawyer to sue the ski slope and then the nexy year the ski slope looses its insurance and is closed.
Our litigous society sometimes makes me very discusted.
Bottom line - people who use NOS need to face the reality that when back fires occur it can get down right nasty - which is what happend in this case.
Its like a guy who sues a Casino after spening two days gambling and then loosing all his money saying that the casino never advised him to get some rest.
The farmer should have left a bail of hay for me to land in when I was sky diving over his farm and my parachute failed to open.
When I was tresspassing in your nuclear power plant, I became irradiated becuase you failed to warn me of the dangers.
When I atteneded your rock concert the music was very loud which damaged my hearing and I developed post tramatic streess disorder
The gun I was using failed to warn me before I shot myself in the foot

ok well since this is my first post on this topic its going to be kinda long. i live here in toledo and i have heard from the driver and have tons and tons of info on this, so here goes.
first off
it isnt the same car, but it is the same owner and driver. they still have that car, but since they werent happy with it, they just started over with a new one for this season.
second
I didn't look at this car, I have seen Showdowns work in the past and it was all hack work. I don't know about this car but their last was one step short of scrap in my book.
It sucks for them that it burned. Proper installation and use of parts isn't something that comes overnight and I am sure that had everything to do with the car catching fire in the rear at the fuel cell in the first place.

i have seen the work showdown has done in the past to their cars as well as customer cars and i agree with dave that lots of their work is "hack work" they recently did work on 2 cars and after the work was done, they cars no longer ran. of course they blamed the owner, but in all reality, i believe it was their fault.

i do agree it was not totally the fault of the track. they did everything they could to put the fire out. only problem now is the owner of the car is planning on filing a law suit against norwalk for the $50,000 in damage to the car. ok racing is a risky sport. dont go blaming someone else for mistake you made in the way you built the car.
fifth and final piece of info.
the driver made a response to the fire on our local forum. this is what is said.
and in response to buscher's comment
ok whats wrong with these statements...
ok thats 2 different stories...so which is it.
needless to say, im glad the driver, brad, was ok. i just agree with lots of people when they say that the shop and the owner as a whole should have known something like this was going to happen. i used to go to this shop all the time, but not anymore. recently i got a motor from them. we sent the head out to have work done on it and while it was gone they scrapped the rest of the motor. the owner promised us a new motor, but after 3 months of fighting it has yet to happen. my husband called them a little while ago and the owner told him that his main priority right now was figuring out what they were going to do about the car. he said we are not on his priority list right now. i thought the first rule in owning a business is to satisfy the customer. when my husband said that he wanted the replacement by friday or our money back the owner said "you can go **** yourself" now thats the perfect shop to go to.
now some of you can see why dave feels the way he does about this situation. i think this may just be karma coming back to bite them!!!!

After getting the car back and going over eveything the cause of the fire is the aeromotive fuel rail. It has three brackets that bolt to the fuel rail and then the otherside of the bracket bolts to the head. The bolts that bolt to the fuel railed came out and let the fuel rail move enough to unseat the injectors and spray fuel into the engine back. Per the video the second bang is a back fire which ignited the fuel and started the fire. We talked to Aeromotive today and they said the bolts are supposed to have loctite from the factory.
The reason i took so long to slow the car and get out is i didn't realize it was on fire until flames kissed me feet. PLus the engine had already stalled and with no power brakes it is kinda hard to stop. I didn't smell anything burning and thought the white smoke i saw was oil smoke so i steered for the side of the track to get out of the groove.
There were no frantic adjustments made before this pass. John Shepherd was helping us out to adjust the shift linkage on the car because it was all out of whack and would not let me shift into 3rd or 4th very easily. The car was run down the track with no nitrous to make sure the alignment was on. The next run it went 11.0 @ 108 missing third and coasting after third because i had no 4th. I can tell you right now this car was way faster than last years car. I was only runnign 32 psi and a 100 shot versus 36 psi and 150shot from last year when i went 10.1 @ 141.

I can show you pics of the fuel rail if you want all **** ****ed and the injectors unseated. Do some research this happens quite a bit on fuel injected cars running nitrous. Ryan woon ( fastest six speed supra in the world) had this happen to him late last year which started a fire, but was put out by the track crew.
Any other questions?

Whats funny is everyone saying that the track should have done more.
What more could the track have done. The car was a writeoff only a couple of seconds after the driver got out. Nothing like the whole enginebay and underside of the car being on fire. If it was just the engine bay it would have been easier to put out, and possible to save the shell, but what are you going to do when the fire in the engine bay is fully developed and the complete underside is also on fire.
Good clue to how quick it went up is the color of the smoke. when the black smoke starts to roll out in quantity....

It isn't bad. The only downfall in my eyes is that it will melt at a lower temperature. But is that a bad thing with a car engulfed in flames? It'll add more fuel to the fire if it melts but may help to avoid an explosion. Even if there had been an aluminum cell in that car it would have melted so the point is null.
