It's hideous. I own one because of the performance and value.

Is the Evo an "ugly"car?

I happen to think that the Evo VIII is very visually appealing. It's a nice blend of aggressive styling and utility. In other words, I think that it's form and function rolled into one. Yet I've heard some of you refer to the car's looks in less than flattering terms. So, did you buy the Evo for the performance, in spite of its appearance? Or do you really like the way it looks?

visually appealing, no. I still think they took design tips from the Sunfire, Pontiac design team. Nothing a nice CWest kit can't fix. This is for the Evo8.

Evolution 5... HOTTEST EVO evar!

Awesome driving experience... fun, fun, fun? Hell Yes!

If you're using CWest as a gold standard for good looks, I'd question your aesthetics. As for me, I like the overall design, though I could do without the bulbous rear bumper (I like the JDM one much more) and the silly split grille.

I don't think so. Actually, I think it looks very muscular with it's buldging fenders and sleek lines. It reminds me of how much sportier an M3 looks over a 3 series sedan. Except for the wing, I got a lot "ohhs and ahhs" from many non-car people.

Haha.. I never said it was a "standard", bud. I happen to think it's better than stock. I think the Evo 8 IS the ugliest version of the Evo ever made... until the X comes out. You can question "my aesthetics" all you want.. I did buy the ugly car.

btw... to get things straight... Evo 5 = PERFECT.

I think I passed you in toledo coming back from the Shootout... RR, michigan plates, "buschur" sticker?

**edits for the sensitive Evo owners**
I do think the Evo8 has some nice redeeming features, spoiler is awesome and some lines look good. Interior is crappy, but I love my Recaros. It IS a great drive though!

It looks okay to me. But for all you Japanese monster movie fans, if you look at our Evo front bumper from the side, it looks like that Japanese monster called Gamera. Especially if you have a blacked out headlights.

My thoughts exactly. At first I HATED the Evo VIII's looks, but it grew on me. Same goes for the STi.

I don't know if I'd say it's ugly. I'm afraid a better word for both the STI and EVO is adolescent. Get rid of the Fast and Furious styling crap. I like the comment in the last Car and Driver article where they said the styling even embarrased one of their 22 year old staffers. The EVO GTA is by FAR better looking.

Problem is...our car is a 4-door sedan...which means there's a lot less things you can do to it to make it more visually appealing.

It does not help that our car's basic design (i use "basic" loosely) have not changed since the EVO 3...some might even argue ever since Evo 1.

The wide fenders, headlights, side skirts, wing, distinct lines, boxy look are definitely not revolutionary....all lines point towards the center split grill on our nose (I'm not a fan of the nose).

What else can be done?

I think it needs to wear more jewelery....give us factory gold BBS, OZ, or Volk type/style wheels...maybe use 18s sizes as well.

But still...it's a sedan...only so much can be done...

I def think the STi is uglier than our Evo...this was 1 big reason I bought the Evo, was it looked better, sleeker, more handsome than the big bubbley STi.

But what is a good benchmark for 4-door sedan style?
These cars change distinct styles from time to time...unlike BMW and Audi's

Mazda 6? <---I like, but it does look a bit like the Evo
Accord? <--- blah
Camry? <---Boring!

There are no good looking 4-doors out there that really stand out.

that's a pretty dumb comment. The Evo has always had very bold styling (well at least since the Evo3) This is exactly why I hate F&F, it made it trendy to have wings and hood vents in america. Personally I love the styling of all the Evos and could really care less if others think they're ugly. Go buy a corvette or M3 if you're worried about looking adolescent!!
