At 400 hp, how could you not consider it?
I haven't looked at them, haven't driven them, but I can tell you stories about my first (and last) GM vehicle.
I dunno if Mitsu is more reliable, no experience with them, but man, it would be hard to not be.

Well, plus you have to consider if you want the last of a dying breed...since GM cancelled their ZETA program there won't be another GTO released in America after 2006 or 2007 (I forget which). Mitsubishi already is making the Evo IX and is designing the Evo X, so you can be pretty confident that there will be Evos in the future. Not really a HUGE point, but something you might like to consider.

autoeuphoria said it well. but the decision is all up to in the end. the gto is a great machine but ide much rather have the evo wich is more "well-rounded" in a sense.
