why are you spiking? Is it due to your mechanical boost gauge.

Spiking is very common with the Evos. I believe David Buschur said it was due to the speed at which the turbo spools. The compressor wheel spools so fast that boost pressure spikes before the wastegate can react to it. The boost gauge doen't effect the spike.

The best way I've seen to quench the boost spike is to get your ECU reflashed/tuned. You could also run a MBC.

Cool... I have the same gauge, same Autometer pod, in the same spot. I put an EGT on the other side. Have yet to take a pic, it looks great though.

You're right, it does look darker. Must be the camera. In person, it looks the same as the rest of the gauges.
