The downsides of owning an EVO. Clutch
I was wondering if I found a nice unmolested well taken care of V///, how long should I expect to have the stock clutch working properly? I will be doing nothing but normal spirited driving until I get used to the car, I will be looking at one in the 20-30,000 mile range. Also, how much should I expect to shell out for a new clutch and to have it installed... I hear an EVO clutch is roughly a 10 hour job, now that is a LOT of $$$ in labor. What is a good clutch set up and how much should this set me back, I don't plan on a huge list of mods, probobly cams, TBE, CAI, Flash, SAFC... a good tune, so not much HP, I'll probobly bring it to the track occassionally but no 5k launches or anything. I just don't want to have to worry about this.

The clutch is a shell game. The cost to replace varies check around in your area. Moat of us have gone to the ACT set up. Given what you expect from your evo, should you get one, ACT is an excellent choice.

How much are we talking here for $$$. I think it should probobly be one of my first mods, but on the other hand I will try and hold out with the stock clutch for as long as possible... if the V/// was owned by someone older or someone who never modded, abused etc then how long should that stocker last?

I know a guy with a Bushar stage 4 on his evo and his stock clutch lasted 35000 miles. The car is rallied and Auto X'd consistantly but he's also a stud when it comes to driving.
It takes a fool to kill an Evo clutch at 10000 miles.
I would say keep a close eye on it and save your dough for a good mechanic.

Too many variables. The quickest I’ve herd of one wearing out was 50 miles, the longest I've herd was about 30k. Even if an older person drove it and didn’t mod it there's no way to know if they knew how to drive a stick/Evo correctly. I don’t go above 1000 rpms when I’m taken off from a stop, but someone else may think the correct way is to rev it up to 1500 rpms or so.
If you can afford to do it, then just do it. That way you know the clutch is good and you’ll know how long it will last.

I am past 45k miles on my stock clutch. No mods on my Evo, but I drive it in the twisites pretty hard. I've done 2 4k+ launches.
I like to think I know how to drive a manual transmission.
My stock clutch in my 95 GSX had 120k on it when it was totaled.
