I've mastered the teqhnique...just gotta get more consistant with it. I know what im supposed to do, and when i actually do it, im pulling 1.6x-1.70....

its a science though, and the sheer physics of it makes it hard to reciprocate every time. Although, the few launches i have done on my ACT i get a stank clutch burning smell...where i never got it on the stocker. I don't quite understand that...but i dunno

AWD newb question... I know that dumping the clutch at a high RPM is the best way to break your tranny/drivetrain.

If you have an ACT/ Exedy clutch and "feather" or ride the clutch out of 1st at, say 5000 rpm, is there still a chance of breaking something? What I'm asking is, is there a safe way to launch an Evo without the fear of damaging your car?

yes, there is a safe way. don't dump the clutch. you don't have to ride it long, just a small slip to get the car rolling.

warrtalon explained perfectly . i had a mother of a time getting a good launch when I first bought my car. I finally started listening to some other evo owners, and read one of warrtalons old posts...
When you finally do it right, youll know it. I was like OMG! Now if I could only get it everytime.

Get the clutch to just begin to grab when staging car,get the pedal height feel to where it just begins to grab,as the lights drop bring up the RPM's and then Chase the clutch pedal with the throttle,as you quickly let out the clutch push the gas down, just like you would launching a powerful street bike with the stock wheel base, trying not to wheelie.Do this and it is the easiest on your drive train, but puts an *sswhipping on your clutch.NOTE;only works really well with stock clutch or stock like clutch(ie;ACT,RRE no name,Exedy single).
It is much harder to do with a twin disc as they are much grabbier. This works great for mid to high 1.6 60' to 1.7's all day long,or until your clutch wears out after several days at the dragstrip.Hell,my slipping stock clutch worst 60' of the day was a 1.76,then once the "glazing" wore off as the day progressed it got better, down to 1.68 60' when I finally broke out,now it grabs better than when it was new.BTW,on stock clutch3000 hard miles

Went to the track today and saw my friend launch his car and it was pretty hard. After the race he calls me and tells me he broke something.1st thing that came to my mind was the TC. Now when he makes turn all you hear is CLUNK CLUNK so im pretty sure its the diff broken. Told him to send it to Jon at TRE instead of spending 3k on a new on from
