I use Mobil 1 10w-30. After a few oil changes and oil analyses, I may switch to Delvac and see what the difference is.

Yeah, the oil is supposed to be really good. It has shown better wear numbers in UOAs than most other oils, even Mobil1. I plan on sending my oil out for analysis to see how well it holds up. With it being Diesel oil, it holds up better in high stress engines and has a less tendency to shear out of grade. I've also heard that it is made out of at least 26% ester based oil which have a better tendency to "stick" to parts even after the engine is shut down. Plus you get good start up protection with a quick flowing 5 weight, and the protection of a 40 weight when the engine is warmed up. Over all I would say its a great oil all around!

using 0w-30 German castrol. it is a thick 30wt low 40wt ester based oil switched from 5w-40 76 pure synthetic. The only ACEA A3 rated 30wt that I can find. see
this link for info.
It is time to dispel the notion that 0W-30 oil is too thin when our manual calls for 10W-30. A 0W-30 is always the better choice, always. The 0W-30 is not thinner. It is the same thickness as the 10W-30 at operating temperatures. The difference is when you turn your engine off for the night. Both oils thicken over the evening and night. They both had a thickness, a viscosity of 10 when you got home and turned your engine off. That was the perfect thickness for engine operation.

"German Castrol" ("GC") is Castrol Syntec 0w-30 which comes in a black bottle. The rear of the label states "Made in Germany". If it DOES NOT say "Made in Germany", it's not GC. There is still "Made in the USA" Syntec 0w-30 out there on store shelves, my local AutoZone has some. IIRC, it is also a black bottle but it has yellow writing on the label versus GC's red writing. One other thing, it's only sold at AutoZone stores in the U.S. Happy hunting!

I've heard its really hard to find the green GC now. I ran the GC over the winter months for the cold start protection. Its just hard to come by and I can get a 5qt jug of Mobile1 Truck&SUV (delvac1) at wal-mart for $20. Everyone at that site recommends either GC or Delvac

I would guess that the people running the heavier weight oils are more concerned about longevity than they are performance. I'm sure most of you know this, but you will lose a little power by going with a heavier oil...

Mobile 1 10W-30 three seasons, Mobile 1 5W-30 Winter.
M1 seems to be one of the best "newer motor" motor oils out there. I think it has a lot to do with its additive / metalization package.
Amsoil seems to have a better "higher milage" motor oil, and perhaps I'll switch to that at 60 to 80k miles.
